Each of the Chittenango track and field teams had successful conclusions to their respective efforts in the Onondaga High School League Liberty American division.
In last Tuesday’s four-team meet against Mexico, Marcellus and Institute of Technology Central, the Bears prevailed on all sides, toppling the Mustangs 75-36.5 and the Tigers 102.5-20.5, while also beating the Eagles 96-27.
All of this helped Chittenango improve to 6-0 and finish on top of the Onondaga High School League Liberty American division standings.
Devin Myers won four boys events, going 16.1 seconds in the 110 hurdles, tearing through the 400 hurdles in 1:00.7, going 18 feet in the long jump and unleashing a top triple jump of 39’3”.
Dylan Price ran 800 meters in 2:08.8 and claimed the mile in 4:52.3, while Dave Gratien won the 3,200-meter run in 10:44.8. Price, Kenny Matthews, Nate Lampman and Jacobi Dwyer won the 4×400 relay in 3:46.8.
Price and Lampman joining Caleb Prenoveau and Tristam LaFountaine to go 9:17.8 in the 4×800 relay, with Prenoveau, on his own, going 52.9 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
Callum Reed had a winning discus throw of 107’9”, with Dakota Diable throwing the shot put exactly 40 feet. Dwyer went 12.0 seconds in the 100-meter dash as Parker Tedford was first in the 200-meter dash in 24.5 seconds.
Chittenango’s girls won 83-38 over Institute of Technology Central to go with a 75.5-36.5 win over Marcellus, and then both sets of Bears would head over to Friday’s Oneida Invitational.
It included seeing the boys Bears’ 4×800 relay team of Lampman, Prenoveau, Price and Ersilio Cerminaro victorious in the 4×800 relay in a time of 8:27.31, more than 16 seconds ahead of runner-up Camden.
Gratien, with a mile of 4:49.56, was second to Rome Free Academy’s Nate Sletten (4:42.59), while Price was fourth in the 800 in 2:06.76. Myers got fifth place in the 110 hurdles in 16.45 seconds, Reed threw the shot put 39’2 ½” to get fifth place.
In the girls meet at Oneida, Maryanna Garcia won the 400 sprint for Chittenango, her time of 1:02.21 more than a second ahead of Nottingham’s Nazjae Howard (1:03.36).
