Cazenovian equestrian Beezie Madden, aboard Abigail Wexner’s horse Breitling LS, won the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping 2018 Final in Paris this past weekend, garnering her second win in the FEI World Cup Jumping Final.
Madden claimed her victory separated by just two penalty points from American team member Devin Ryan in second place. Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann placed third for the second year in a row while the 2017 champion, American McLain Ward, came in fourth.
“It is always exciting to win a championship, and two of these is pretty amazing,” Madden said. “I was so happy that my owner, Abgiail Wexner, was here today to see. I am so happy for her and the rest of my team, my husband John, and the horse, especially. Also, what a fantastic week for the Americans, with three in the top-four. It’s really exciting.”
Finishing just a mere two points behind Madden, Ryan expressed his enthusiasm over sharing the podium with her. “To be second behind Beezie — she’s a legend in our country,” said Ryan. “Beezie, McLain, any of them — it’s always a good place to be. This is my first championship and it is fantastic. I am proud to be an American today. Proud to be beside Beezie.”
Beezie’s next goal will be the FEI World Equestrian Games which will be held in the Tryon, N.C. this September, followed by the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
