CENTRAL NEW YORK – Of the area’s high school girls golf teams, no one left a bigger impression than Jamesville-DeWitt during the last full week of April.
In its season opener last Tuesday afternoon, the Red Rams put up low numbers throughout its roster on the way to a 158-205 victory over the Chittenango Bears.
Abby Newman shot a 37 for nine holes, two ahead of Sophia Ferris, who posted 39. Jaeda Robinson and Izzy Vaverchak each finished with 41 as Sarah Burgess got a 42 and Anna Smith picked up a 47.
Moving to 2-0 on the season Thursday, J-D handled Oswego 187-230. Robinson and Newman both shot 46 as Oswego Country Club, while Smith again posted 47. Burgess shot 48 ahead of a 52 from Ferris and 58 from Cleo Shiomos.
That same day, Christian Brothers Academy proved quite impressive, too, routing Bishop Grimes 188-270 at Drumlins.
Grace Catalano’s 42 was the top individual round, Meredith Sommers adding a 44. Aubrey Mills posted 49 and Makenna Schultz added a 53 in front of the Cobras’ low round of 59 from Abby Docos, one ahead of Natalie Musolino’s 60.
Back on Monday, CBA handled Skaneateles 209-240 at Drumlins, led by Sommers shooting a 48. Bella Meade posted 53, with Catalano and Mills each getting 54 and Hana Kang shooting 58.
On Thursday, CBA defeated Cazenovia 200-225, with Catalano’ and Meade bosh shooting 48 as Kang and Anna Fuller contributed rounds of 52.
Fayetteville-Manlius saw its younger White team beat Cicero-North Syracuse Green 220-256 last Tuesday afternoon at Northern Pines. Madison Brown’s 53 and Emma Li’s 56 helped overcome the 52 by the Northstars’ Lindsay Kubala.
Playing again on Wednesday, F-M White fell to C-NS Blue 200-215. Brown shot a 51, behind Northstars teammates Jessica Ricciardi (45) and Isabella Borte (48) as Lucia Melfi and Sydney Hines both shot 56 and Emily Pollard had a 56.
This happened as F-M Green returned to action against West Genesee at Westvale and proved quite impressive in a 123-167 victory over the Hornets.
Alana Isley tore her way to a 29, with Erin Graves earning a 30 and Georgia Perry shooting 31. Heirut Miller finished with a 33 as Elizabeth Noel got a 35 and Gabby Dardis shot 39.
Even bigger for F-M Green was Thursday’s 190-204 win over Cicero-North Syracuse Blue, which handed the 3-0 Northstars its first defeat of the season.
Four Hornets broke 50 at Green Lakes, led by Perry’s 46, which was just behind the 45 from C-NS Blue’s Isabella Borte. Miller got a 47, with Isley adding a 48 and Graves shooting 49. Dardis finished with a 53.
Manlius-Pebble Hill faced Skaneateles and took a 246-261 defeat to the Lakers. Amitees Fazeli had the low individual round of 51, with Caroline Mezzalingua adding a 60. Jillian Scott led Skaneateles with a 54.
A 239-288 loss to Marcellus followed a few days later, though again Amitees Fazeli led all individuals with a 50 as Parmees Fazeli finished with a 60. Allison Coombs paced the Mustangs with a 53.
In boys golf, MPH was succesful last Thursday, beating Pulaski 256-292. Tommy Wildhack’s 39 was two better than the Blue Devils’ Matt Olson as James Wildhack had a 46 and Nick Trivelpiece earned a 48.
