CENTRAL NEW YORK – Once more, the Fayetteville-Manlius boys tennis team aims only to leave the rest of the SCAC Metro division competition far behind them.
When the Hornets returned for last Monday’s match against West Genesee, it had little trouble with a typically difficult opponents, sweeping past the Wildcats 7-0.
Rolling through singles, F-M had Fergus Brady and Colin Byer each win 6-0, 6-0 matches over, respectively, Ian Palmieri and Nathan Smith, with Cameron Lukasik taking out Joe Paoli 6-0, 6-1.
As for doubles, the Hornets’ closest match had Anay Dalal and Xavier Sul beating Nate Ruston and Ty’San Scott 6-3, 6-0 as the teams of Jaden Duggal-Davin Woolridge, David Fernando-Andrew Li and Gene Ballan-Dan Manta lost just one total game in six sets.
Baldwinsville offered more of a challenge a day later, but the Hornets still handled them 6-1, Fernando and Byer with shutouts to counteract Lukasik’s 6-2, 6-2 loss to Antonio Marsallo.
To complete its doubles sweep, F-M had Li and Brady pair up to outlast Mason Doan and Connor Tutor 6-4, 5-7, 6-1, while the teams of Duggal-Woolridge, Ballan-Manta and Sul-Dalal each win in two sets.
Then F-M shut out Liverpool 7-0 on Friday, dominant again as Lukasik’s 7-5, 6-1 sweep of Justin Barrett was the only match where any Hornets player gave up more than three total games.
Jamesville-DeWitt, already at 4-0 this spring, made it five in a row with yet another shutout last Monday afternoon, routing Central Square 7-0.
Shreyank Bhatt’s 6-2, 6-0 singles win over Michael Schaap was the closest of the singles matches. Will Sharlow and Anthony Fico lost just one game between them as, in doubles, the teams of Mark Bratslavsky-Luke Cantone, William Parratt-Carson Souser, Dean Bratslavsky-Isaiah Sternberg and Daksh Maini-Jacob Price each won in two sets.
East Syracuse Minoa was close when it faced Central Square on Thursday, but the Spartans lost 4-3, the key blow in singles where Krish Patel saw an early lead get away in a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 defeat to Owen Peck.
Straight-set doubles wins by Jack Satterlee-Josh Spilka and Jacob Harmon-Carter Jacobs were augmented by Joe Leveron and Donovan Randall’s 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 win over Akira Kuratate and Alessandro Prezioso
Christian Brothers Academy took its first defeat of the season against Cazenovia last Monday, the Brothers falling 3-2 to the Lakers.
In singles, Soren Kang handled Garret Lounsbury 6-3, 6-3, but Chanu Yang fell to Traian Cherciu by those same scores and Gabriel Yang had a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Jake Wardell.
John Engle and Will Vandemeer claimed a 6-0, 6-2 doubles match over Ethan Camp and Carter Ruddy, but a set from a team victory, Fabrizio Arezzo and Finn Doyle could not hold on in a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 loss to Andrew Falso and Gabe Reagan.
Shutting out Manlius-Pebble Hill 5-0 on Thursday, CBA dominated singles as Kang, Chanu Yang and Gabriel Yang dropped just one game in six sets. The doubles teams of Arezzo-Doyle and Engle-Vandemeer also won in two sets.
MPH earned its first victory of the season last Monday against Onondaga/Westhill, prevailing by a score of 4-1.
Matt Roberson and Deven Trikka won in doubles, topping Zane Eldred and Caleb Fowler 7-5, 6-0, while Kevin Fratositanu and Abraham Salamon won 6-4, 6-0 over Zero Stiner and Faith Taylor.
And though Anthony Pitts lost in singles 6-3, 7-6 to Shay Smyth, Alex Fung worked through three sets to beat Jon Massaro 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 as Eric Ma beat Evelynn Loan 6-1, 6-0.
A 4-1 win over LaFayette followed two days later, with a singles sweep as Fung topped Mark Humphrey 6-1, 6-1, Joh Howard won 6-4, 6-3 over Devon Harris and Mustafa Kornye handled Jenna Reese 6-1, 6-3. Fratositanu and Salomon claimed their doubles point in straight sets.
Then MPH beat Pulaski by that same 4-1 margin on Friday, with two doubles points from Roberson-Trikka and Fratostitanu-Salomon as Fung won in singles and Howard got past Calden Potter 6-0, 2-6, 6-2.
