Just like it had throughout December, the Marcellus boys indoor track and field team put up a dominant performance to win at last Saturday’s afternoon session of the George Constantino Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
With points in every single event, the Mustangs earned 155 points overall, well clear of large-school powers Cicero-North Syracuse (93.5) and Liverpool (89) as Skaneateles was sixth with 28 points.
Peter McCaffrey picked up 26 points, capped by a wining high jump of 5 feet 6 inches. He also had a second-place long jump of 19’2 3/4″, with Ian Potter fifth as McCaffrey also was second in the triple jump, going 39’1 1/4 as Striffler (36’7″) was fifth. Xander Szalach was fourth in the high jump.
Tyler Herr was victorious in the 300-meter dash in 38.30 seconds, chased by, among others, Skaneateles’ Jack Phillips (39.05) in third place. Herr, Ryan Constable, Mason Grieb and Joe Striffler were second in the 4×200 relay in 1:40.97.
Mason Grieb went 8.78 seconds for second place in the 55-meter hurdles as Lukas Grieb was fifth. Then Grieb was third in the 600-meter run in 1:37.09 as Colin Gerbsch was second in 1:31.26 before he took fifth in the 1,000-meter run. Scott Hall took third with a shot put of 33’11” as George Hanford was sixth, Hall also taking fifth in the weight throw.
Nate Alexander went 10:49.02 in the 3,200-meter run to take second place, after he was fourth in the 1,600-meter run. The Mustangs ran the 4×800 relay in 9:49.57 to finish third and was fourth in the 4×400 relay.
Skaneateles’ Alex Moro cleared 9 feet with fewer misses than Marcellus’ Andrew McCaffrey and won that event. The Lakers also had Will Girzadas rise to third in the 1,000 in 2:56.36.
Marcellus also finished fourth in the girls portion, with Skaneateles seventh, the Mustangs seeing Kaitlyn Worden, Heidi Steigerwald, Emma Roseboom and Drew Johnson get second place in the 4×200 in 2:00.54. Steigerwald also was second in the high jump, clearing 4’8″ as teammate Angelina Coleman was fifth.
Virginia Lucchetti was fifth in the 600 and seventh in the 1,500. The Mustangs took third in the 4×800 in 11:13.36 and fourth in the 4×400 in 4:46.92 as Skaneateles was sixth. Olivia Smolen was sixth in the weight throw.
The Lakers had Kyla Palmer beat the field in the 300 in 42.22 seconds, with no one else below the 43-second mark. Annabel Wells sixth in the 55 hurdles and Cate Comer sixth in the 600 to go with a fourth in the high jump.
Earlier that day, in the morning session of the Constantino meet, West Genesee swept the relays and finished fourth in both the boys and girls portions, with Jordan-Elbridge sixth on the girls side.
Chris Moser, Anthony Edgar, Payton Manipole and Bryce Bort were victorious in the 4×400 in 3:43.07. Moser joined Peter McMahon, Casey Comny and Alex Puchta followed by winning the 4×800 in 8:59.49 as Manipole, Moser, Bort and Dom Burris beat the field in the 4×200 in 1:36.74.
On his own, Burris was second in the 55 sprint in 6.87 seconds and third in the long jump (19 feet) ahead of Bort in fifth place before McMahon took second in the 600 in 1:29.09.
As for the WG girls, Natalie Keiling was fourth in the 55 sprint in 7.89 seconds, with the Wildcats second in the 4×800 in 10:55.90 to go with a fourth in the 4×400 and fifth in the 4×200. Alexcis Ryedelek was third in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put.
J-E’s Coral Uhle won the 600 in 1:51.11 ahead of the Wildcats’ Chloe Fietze (1:53.39) in third place. Vassianna Klock was third in the 1,500 in 5:01.55, then went to the front in the 1,000 in 3:06.72 as Tatianna Parkolap cleared 5 feet and won the high jump.
Before all this, Westhill took part in the third Mohawk Valley ITA meet of the season at Utica College, where it finished second to Rome Free Academy on the girls side with 67.5 points and tied for fourth on the boys side.
Angie Mesa was victorious in the 55 sprint in 7.77 seconds, with Elle Herrera fourth as Ashley Bolesh won the 600 in 1:38.49 before joining Mesa, Herrera and Kate Bendall to win the 4×200 in 1:48.11.
Bolesh got second in the triple jump with 34’4″ as Bendall was sixth in the long jump and Colleen Patrie took fourth place in the shot put and Corine Allen was fourth in the pole vault.
Westhill’s boys had Brian Allen, Drew O’Reilly, Brian Kenny and Brandon Mulholland win the 4×800 in 8:47.42 Evan Frost take second in the 300 in 38.60 seconds and third in the 55 sprint in 7.06, with Carter Buckman fifth in the 600 and Jon Gratien fifth in the triple jump.
