MADISON COUNTY – Now just two weeks are left in the regular season for the Cazenovia boys golf team, who once again would take a challenge from its neighbors.
The Lakers and Chittenango collided last Wednesday at Rogues Roost, and despite not playing on its home course, Cazenovia got the best of this showdown, defeating the Bears 203-226.
It was quite a batlte at the top of the individual standings, but Cazenovia’s Chris Kelly, for the first time this season, emerged as the medalist thanks to his nine-hole score of 38.
And while Alex Moesch shot 39 to lead Chittenango, three Lakers matched him, with Ben Orback and Liam Colligan joining Jack Byrnes on that total. Then Nick Guider clinched the vicotry with a 48 ahead of Will Guider’s 51.
Tyrus Kelly managed a 40 for the Bears, with Tanner Smith adding a 43. Alex Pappas finished with a 51 and Henry Miller earned a 56.
Two days earlier, Cazenovia had rolled past Mexico 229-288 to improve its record to 7-2, with Kelly and Orback both shooting 44 at Cazenovia Country Club.
All five of the sub-50 rounds on this day came from the Lakers, including a 46 by both Byrnes and Colligan along with a 49 from Will Guider.
Right before it faced Cazenovia, Chittenango hosted Tully and handled the Black Knights 222-246, with Kelly and Alex Kelly both shooting 39, two shots ahead of the Black Knights’ Ryan Shute. Smith made his way to fourth place with a 44, while Miller earned a 49. Pappas and Ryan Moesch both finished with 51.
