CENTRAL NEW YORK – The Skaneateles softball team is off to one of its best starts in years, which continued last Monday against Solvay as the Lakers managed to outscore the Bearcats 15-10, netting five runs in the bottom of the third and added five runs an inning later.
Tatum Pas’cal had three hits and scored three runs, with Ayla Pas’cal also scoring three times as she, along with Katie Combs and Chelsea Metz, had two RBIs apiece. Ava Kosecki got three hits for Solvay as teammate Delaney Kaszubinski earned three RBIs.
The Lakers kept this up Wednesday by rallying past Mexico 6-4, the turning point coming in the top of the sixth when Skaneateles struck for five runs to erase the Tigers’ 3-1 advantage.
Natalie Yokom’s two-run single keyed that comeback as Ayla Pas’cal and Lexi Cottrill also drove in runs. Laci Gadis pitched and went all seven innings, overcoming six Mexico hits.
Westhill, who lost to Marcellus on May 6, roared back by beating Christian Brothers Academy 9-5 last Monday, erasing a 5-1 deficit when it scored three runs in the fourth inning and five times in the bottom of the fifth.
Hannah Schmitz, with three singles, sparked the rally, with Sydney Bistrovich and Catherine Cottrell getting two hits apiece. Belle Cassidy had a pair of RBIs as Alexa Korrie added an RBI.
Sweeping the series, the Warriors held off CBA 11-9 on Thursday to improve its record to 4-1 overall.
Jordan-Elbridge won again last Monday afternoon, handling Altmar-Parish-Williamstown 12-3 as it went in front with three runs in the fourth inning and took charge in the fifth, batting around and scoring six times.
It proved a lot tougher on Wednesday, but J-E outlasted Homer 4-2, using single runs in four different innings while pitcher Alexis Delfavero tossed a gem, striking out 13 and holding the Trojans to three hits.
Ava Hildebrandt, with three RBIs, paced the Eagles at the plate, while Abby Ahern singled, walked twice and scored three runs. Sarah Lane contributed a single and RBI.
Friday’s rematch with Homer was more lopsided, the Eagles prevailing 12-3 as it scored four times in both the second and fifth innings to seize control and gain its sixth win in a row.
West Genesee was roughed up last Monday by C-NS in a 22-3 loss, though Abby Searle did have a single, double and two RBIs. The Northstars’ Giana Wameling had a home run, double, two singles and seven RBIs. The Wildcats then lost 8-1 to Fayetteville-Manlius a day later.
But the Wildcats’ skid ended Friday with a 19-9 win over Fulton, scoring in all seven innings as Searle, Cameron Rosenthal, Samantha Bubb and Olivia Cox led the way with two RBIs apiece.
And WG was tough in Saturday’s game against Christian Brothers Academy, even if it ended in a 3-1 defeat.
Searle drove in Rachel Shackleton in the bottom of the first to get the Wildcats on the board. Shackleton pitched and had a shutout until the Brothers struck twice in the top of the fifth and added a run in the seventh.
Bishop Ludden bashed past Cato-Meridian 22-2 last Tuesday afternoon for its first win of the season, and then claimed a wild 14-11 battle over Weedsport two days later.
Against Weedsport, Amarah Streiff and Ashley Petraganani both got five hits, with Streiff earning five RBIs, while Kaitlyn Kibling drove in three runs, got four hits and scored four times.
