ONONDAGA COUNTY – Improving weather – meaning warmer temperatures, more sunshine and less wind – greeted area high school track and field teams when they gathered again last Wednesday afternoon.
Marcellus hosted Phoenix, and the girls Mustangs proved quite successful against the Firebirds, prevailing 91-41.
Delaney Manahan took wins in the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 1:08.2, while Lauren Myers claimed the 100 hurdles in 18.4 seconds and had a top triple jump of 31 feet 5 inches.
Emma Roseboom took the 200-meter dash in 28.3 seconds as Anella Bolster went 14’5” in the long jump and Bailey Ellis threw the discus 69’2”. Heidi Steigerwald cleared 4’10” in the high jump and ran a leg for Marcellus in the 4×800 relay, which posted 13:02.9 as the Mustangs’ 4×100 side won in 57.9 seconds.
And the Marcellus boys team won, too, handling Phoenix 96-44 with Peter McCaffrey going to the forefront with four individual titles.
In the course of a single meet, McCaffrey threw the discus 106’3”, cleared 8 feet in the pole vault, unleashed a 19-foot long jump and had a top triple jump of 39’10 1/2”.
Helping out, Jonah Kwasnowski took the 110 hurdles in 16.3 seconds and the 400 hurdles in 1:02.1. Tyler Herr (200), Colin Gerbsch (400), Kevin Donath (800) and Caeden Cox also won, Cox going 4:58.1 in the 1,600-meter run.
Jordan-Elbridge took its turn against Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, and the Eagles won the girls meet 77-53 over the Rebels.
In a sweep of the distance races, J-E’s Vassi Klock ran the 800 in 2:26.76, covered 1,500 meters in 5:52.0 and went 12:56.7 to prevail in the 3,200.
Coral Uhle claimed the 400 sprint in 1:07.3 and helped the Eagles take the 4×800 relay in 13:50.0 as Klock was part of a 4×400 relay side that prevailed in 5:11.1.
Tatiana Parkolap added titles in the 400 hurdles in 1:20.9 and the high jump, where she cleared 5 feet. Kyler Langhorn had a top long jump of 14’9” and a winning triple jump of 31’8”.
A close boys meet saw J-E fall to APW 66-53, though the Eagles claimed four individual events, including Peyton Bates taking the 3,200 in at ime of 12:51.0.
Tyler Spencer threw the shot put 36’3”as Cameron Newhook threw the discus 81’7” and Aidan Lewis went 25.3 seconds to take the 200. Aspen Vallance won the pole vault, 1,600 and 400 to lead the ReBels.
West Genesee had its girls track team take an 84-58 defeat to Baldwinsville, though Lauren Puchta won two distance races for the Wildcats.
Puchta ran the 800 in 2:40.6 and the 1,600 in 5:43.7 to claim both races, while Payton Long completed the distance sweep when she won the 3,200 in 12:44.7.
Rachel Reynolds was first in the 100 hurdles in 19.7 seconds as Alexis Rydelek threw the shot put 27’8” and Vivian Youmans had a top discus throw of 81’9 1/2”. Grace McInerney got first place in the 200 in 28.8 seconds.
WG’s boys lost 101-40 to B’ville, but still had Dominick Burris take the 100 in 11.3 seconds and pair with Justin Byrne, Brandon Scott and Connor Scott to win the 4×100 in 45.2 seconds as Byrne cleared 9 feet in the pole vault.
Peter McMahon earned a time of 10:02.4 to claim the 3,200, but also helped Aiden Walsh, Justin Malinowski and Kevin Moser as WG took the 4×800 relay in 8:49.8.
Solvay took a 67-31 defeat to Mexico on the girls side last Wednesday, though Allie Dooher went 28’1 1/2” in the triple jump and Esther Germakovski was first in the pole vault, clearing 6 feet.
Bishop Ludden faced Pulaski last Wednesday and had Isaiah Patterson win the 100 in 11.8 seconds and the 200 in 24.2 seconds as the Gaelic Knights fell to the Blue Devils 108-21.
