Baldwinsville swimmers defeat Auburn, Syracuse

Bees reach .500 mark led by Miranda, White, Solomon

Improving its overall record to 2-3, the Baldwinsville boys swim team prevailed again in last Monday’s meet against the Auburn Maroons.

It was close between two B’ville sides in the opening 200-yard medley relay. Aidan Solomon, Brennan Gruppe, Ben Webster and Keenan Smith went exactly one minute, 58 seconds, just ahead of the 1:58.18 from the quartet of Hayden Miranda, Alexander Lakomski, Trevor Kantak and Harrison Meyers.

Then Mikey White stepped to the forefront, winning twice. White covered the 200 freestyle in 1:57.81, with Matthew Lange (2:03.29) second, and then was victorious in the 100 freestyle in 54.33 seconds to Solomon’s 56.60.

Tristan Miranda went 5:10.78 in the 500 freestyle to pull away from Meyers (5:44.78), later swimming the fastest 100 breaststroke time of 1:10.80 as Hayden Miranda was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:47.41.

Solomon went 1:03.57 to top the field in the 100 backstroke, while in the 50 freestyle Kantak required a time of 25.34 seconds to beat Webster (25.83) in yet another 1-2 B’ville finish.

B’ville competed again Friday at Nottingham High School against Syracuse City and claimed its second consecutive victory by an 85-70 margin.

Lange would win twice, taking the 50 freestyle in 24.61 seconds and then holding off Meyers, 5:34.87 to 5:40.13, in the 500 freestyle.

Miranda, going 1:53.32 to top White (1:58.25) in the 200 freestyle, later swam the 100 butterfly in 1:03.78 to beat out Gruppe’s 1:05.70 as Solomon posted the fastest 100 backstroke time of 1:03.39.

All of this followed a Feb. 3 meet with visting Fayetteville-Manlius where the Bees took a 48-44 defeat, to the Hornets.

Miranda still flourished, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:55.16, the only sub-two-minute time on either side, as he then pulled away to win the 500 freestyle in 5:13.85.

White, in 53.59 seconds, was second to F-M’s Lucas Weires (50.06) in the 100 freestyle, while Kantak took second in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.97.
