For the track and field teams at Liverpool, and Cicero-North Syracuse lopsided league wins over city foes merely served as appetizers for bigger events ahead.
And that started with the Chittenango Invitational, where the Warriors won both the boys and girls team titles, while the Northstars were third on the boys side and fourth on the girls side.
Liverpool’s success included a clean sweep of the featured Fleet Feet Mile races. On the boys side, Nathan Reeves finished in four minutes, 27.67 seconds, nearly six seconds ahead of the field as Carter Rodriguez (4:36.69) was fifth.
Then, in the girls Fleet Feet Mile, it was Sydney Carlson and Windsor Ardner going 1-2 for the Warriors as Carlson won in 5:22.31 and Ardner was second in 5:24.53, with C-NS’s Allison Newton third in 5:26.13.
In the girls 100 hurdles, Liverpool’s Kali Hayes, in 15.69 seconds, beat out the C-NS duo of Brooke Blaisdell (16.00) and Savannah Kuhr (16.61). Haven Hicks followed by winning the 100-meter dash in 12.72 seconds, with Anne Gullo fifth.
Marissa Baskin, in the long jump, won for the Warriors by going 16 feet 6 inches, the only jump past the 16-foot mark.
Hicks, Baskin, Amina Sinclair and Riley Norris went 50.95 seconds to win the 4×100 relay.Madison Neuner took second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:13.60 and was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.48, with Hayes fifth. Emily Neuner went 11:07.74 to finish second in the 3,000-meter run.
Imahni Sinclair helped the girls Warriors as she won the shot put with a toss of 38’2”, with Madyson Oliveri fourth (30’3”). Sinclair also got fourth place in the discus with a heave of 94’5” as Oliveri took sixth place.
The lone victory for the C-NS girls came from Blaisdell, who in the triple jump needed a leap of 37’11 ¼” to pull away from the field by more than 18 inches.
Also for C-NS, Hannah Boyle, in 1:03.02, beat out Jamie Wagner (1:03.27) for second place in the 400-meter dash, with Lilly Capria second in the high jump by clearing 4’6”. Marissa Navarra was third in the full-field mile.
Moving to the boys meet, C-NS had Jeremiah Willis win the 100 sprint in 10.89 seconds and also have a season-best long jump of 22’9”. Willis, Isaiah Wright, Sam Nessel and Josh Adams took the 4×100 in 45.10 seconds, with Liverpool fourth.
Liverpool went 1-2 in the 3,200-meter run, Jake McGowan winning in 10:22.04 over Kyle Potrzeba (10:51.97), while Owen Jarosz tied for the high jump title by clearing 5 feet. Paul Dewan, fifth in the long jump, prevailed in the triple jump by going 40’7”, less than an inch ahead of the 40’6 ¼” from Cazenovia’s Ray Satchwell.
A battle in the shot put had C-NS’s Andrew Culver go 44’2” to beat out the 43’9” from Liverpool’s Jacob Barnes, while in the discus the Warriors’ Antwan Kelly threw it 135’11”, two inches behind Jamesville-DeWitt’s James Richer (136’1”) as Barnes (127’10”) was fourth.
Ryan Cartwright got second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:22.07, with T.J. Praschunus second in the full-field mile in 4:47.86 as C-NS’s Matt LeClair was fourth. Cameron O’Connell was third in the 800-meter run in 2:02.99.
Wright was fourth in the 110 hurdles an fifth in the 400 hurdles behind Aidan Dietz in fourth place, while Christian Carlin was fourth in the 400 sprint.
At Bragman Stadium last Wednesday, the C-NS girls beat Henninger 138-2 and Corcoran 119-21.
Allison Newton won twice for the girls Northstars in the 1,500 and 3,000 as Sarah Davis took the 800. Julianna Hutt swept the 100 and 200 sprints, with Kuhr winning the 400 hurdles Blaisdell won the long jump and triple jump.
The C-NS boys defeated Henninger 113-28 and Corcoran 110-31, and Willis won three events, going 10.9 seconds in the 100 and 22.9 seconds in the 200 while unleashing a triple jump of 44’4 ½”.
Andrew Culver was first in the shot put and discus. R.J. Davis also won twice, in the mile and 3,200. Nate Osborne cleared 10 feet in the pole vault, with Nessel first in the 400 sprint.
Liverpool, meanwhile, was sweeping Nottingham 131-10 on the girls side and topping the Bulldogs 99-38 on the boys side.
The girls meet included two wins by Imahni Sinclair in the shot put (33’5”) and discus (80’10”), and by Baskin in the long jump (17’2 ¼”) and triple jump (35’6”), Baskin also taking the 100 sprint. Madison Neuner also won twice, in the 400 hurdles and 3,000.
Hicks was first in the 200, with Gullo winning the 400 sprint as Hayes won the 100 hurdles. Amina Sinclair cleared 5’2” in the high jump and Amelia Loop topped 7’6” in the pole vault.
Reeves led the Liverpool boys by running the 400 sprint in 54.3 seconds and then taking the 3,200 in 9:44.31, with Spencer Ruediger winning the mile in 4:47.44 and Dawson Newbern claiming the 800 in 2:07.62.
Kelly threw the discus 133’7” as Barnes had a shot put toss of 43’3”. Dewan was first in the triple jump, going 39’9”, while Bennett Robb cleared 5’10” in the high jump and Andrew Spring topped 9 feet in the pole vault.
