On a cold, clear, blustery November morning, the Cazenovia Cross-country Club (CXC) competed in the Nike Northeast/New York Regional Cross-country Championships in Wappinger Falls, N.Y. Racing in the Open Division and competing in a field of 264 athletes, the team placed 16th out of 28 teams.
Team members Jared Smith (18:53), Noah DeRoche (19:11), Jakob Buckley (19:55), Stanley Angus (20:05), Aidan Coffey (21:44) and Douglas Buckley (24:59) ran well on what is considered among the toughest courses in New York.
Similar to the Footlocker Race Series, Nike Cross is a series of amateur races bringing teams from statewide and regional locations to compete in multiple divisions from open to championship divisions. Clubs are formed primarily from local high school cross country teams, with the winning club and select runners traveling to the national championships later in the year.
Several thousand athletes were on hand and made for a day of racing. Next year, the team plans on entering the Championship Division.
If anyone is interested in being part of the team next year, contact Mike Buckley at endurance_cycling.com or Neal Coffey [email protected].
