A rush of league games for the West Genesee softball team accompanied the warmer weather, with the Wildcats winning three of five against those foes.
Late in April, WG nearly upended Liverpool, but dropped a tough 3-2 decision to the Warriors, this coming right after the Wildcats had romped past Fayetteville-Manlius 17-2.
Teagan Dow and Mya Case both had hits and scored runs to help WG go up 2-1 on Liverpool through two innings. Deanna Shackleton tried to hold that lead, but the Warriors got to her for two runs in the top of the fourth.
From there, it turned into a pitcher’s duel, Shackleton blanking Liverpool, but Jenna Wike doing the same to the Wildcats to help her side hang on. Dow was the only WG batter to get two hits off Wike.
The rematch with F-M last Monday went just like the first edition, the Wildcats bashing the Hornets 16-1 in six innings as it scored in every single frame, peaking with a six-run rally in the bottom of the third.
Maddy Lux scored three runs and drove in three others. Case tripled, singled twice and got two RBIs as Deanna Shackleton, Emily Winton and Katie Drogo drove in two runs apiece. Kaylee Shackleton and Jessica Simon each had one RBI.
This busy week continued with a doubleheader on Thursday against Baldwinsville. WG lost the first game 6-4, but rebounded in a big way to rout the Bees 12-3 in the second game for the split.
The third game was another 6-4 Bees victory that largely was due to Kayla Young’s two home runs and five RBIs. Young also pitched a complete game, overcoming Down’s pair of RBIs as Drogo doubled and drove in a run.
Jordan-Elbridge was 1-2 going into last Monday’s game against Port Byron/Union Springs, where it dropped a close 4-3 decision to the Panthers.
A two-run second inning gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead, but PB/US scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth, that last run proving important as J-E, trailing 4-2, scored in the bottom of the seventh, yet was unable to tie it again.
McKayla Rohmer earned a pair of hits for the Eagles. Mia Arms tripled and drove in a runs, with Rohmer (who scored a run) and Emma Morrell earning RBIs. Mollie Yard and Morgan Schneider also scored runs.
Then J-E met Phoenix last Tuesday, and it turned into a tense pitcher’s battle, but the Eagles got the best of it, edging the Firebirds 1-0.
For 4 ½ innings, neither side could get a run. Then, in the bottom of the fifth, J-E got the run it needed as Alexis Delfavero crossed the plate, having earned one of the Eagles’ four hits. ohmer had two hits and Arms also got a hit.
The Eagles were kept the board in Wednesday’s 5-0 defeat to CBA, with single hits from Arms, Rohmer and Emily Bard against Brothers pitcher Maddy Tallman. All of the runs came in the first three innings as Julia Boule got a double and two RBIs.
Bishop Ludden saw its struggles continue in last Tuesday’s 15-0 defeat to Tully, on the wrong end of a five-inning no-hitter by Black Knights pitcher Alexia Hotchkiss as Emily Lantiegne hit a home run and Jenna Hamelinck got three RBIs.
Ludden got shut out again on Wednesday, Fabius-Pompey beating them 8-0, but here Ally Royal and Kaitlyn Kibling picked up hits against Falcons pitcher Tori Heselden. Lexi Durocher led F-P with three hits and an RBI.
Finally, Ludden produced a run Thursday in a 12-1 defeat to Weedsport, scored by Royal in the first inning to create a brief 1-1 tie before the Warriors took the lead an inning later and scored eight times in the last two innings to get away.
