Except for the fact that unbeaten Christian Brothers Academy arrived at Austin Park and beat them 6-1 last Friday afternoon, the Skaneateles girls tennis team had a strong week of play, winning its other two matches.
The week began quite well for the Lakers as it went to Jordan-Elbridge last Monday and rolled to a 7-0 shutout of the Eagles. Ella Danforth, with her straight-sets win, commenced a singles sweep as Hope Allyn beat Bella DeCola 6-1, 6-0 and Emma Miller used those same scores to handle Abby Skotinski.
In first doubles, Lily Datz and Rachel Feeney beat Megan Hatt and Abbey Karlik 6-1, 6-1, with Isabella Kroon and Brinley Walawender handling Wendy Carter and Meghan Whalen 6-0, 6-1. Caroline Hagen and Melissa Biver won, 6-0, 6-2, over Chelsea Curtis and Delaney Dunham, while Gracie Lee and Marin Doyle beat Maddie Green and Laura Alcock 6-1, 6-0.
Just 24 hours later, Skaneateles hosted Bishop Grimes and again put together a 7-0 shutout, with Danforth going through the toughest singles match, yet still beating the Cobras’ Katie Knittel 6-0, 7-5 as Miller handled Liz Wolaver 6-2, 6-3 and Allyn had a 6-1, 6-1 romp over Michela Martuano.
To begin the doubles sweep, the Lakers had Datz and Feeney get their own 6-1, 6-1 win over Kate Mathews and Olivia Minor. Yet another 6-1, 6-1 match saw Hagen and Biver top Emily Cone and Lenora Cedrone as Lee and Doyle won, 6-4, 6-0, over Peyton Hall and Jenny Morabito. Kroon and Walawender got past AbbyWilkinson and Abby Fletcher in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
Looking for a third win in four days, Skaneateles was set to take on Cazenovia Thursday afternoon, but it got rained out, not what it wanted before CBA showed up, a side that had rarely surrendered a point all season.
But Danforth and Miller would get a point on the Lakers’ side when they beat Grace Coyne and Mikayla Santulli in first singles. Otherwise, it was all Brothers as Allyn fell to Rena Steele 6-1, 6-0 in first singles, with Kroon losing to Grace DelPino by those same scores as Feeney took a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Gieselle Vlassis.
CBA controlled the other three doubles matches, too, as Kroon and Walewender fell to Anna Sasser and Grace Catalano 6-2, 6-2, with Lee and Hagen taking a 6-1, 6-1 defeat to Mary Kilmartin and Allison Brown as Doyle and N Morse lost, 6-1, 6-2, to Aubrey Mills and Grace Glowaki.
At 4-3 overall, Skaneateles would face Marcellus on Monday and Homer Wednesday before a Saturday match against Phoenix.
