CICERO — The Cicero-North Syracuse Optimist girls basketball program is accepting players for the 2021-2022 season.
The 12-week program, which runs every Saturday from Oct. 9 to Jan. 22, is open to girls in third through ninth grade. Third- and fourth-graders will both practice and play on Saturdays at Gillette Road Middle School, while the older girls will practice Tuesday or Wednesday nights at Gillette, and play their games on Saturday, also at Gillette.
During this program, girls of all skill levels will have the opportunity to develop and enhance their basketball skills in a fun atmosphere. The girls will have the opportunity to use the skills they have learned in game play. All girls will be given equal playing time.
The group will be holding two registration sessions from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, and Thursday, Sept. 16, at the NSEA office, located at 210 S. Main St. in North Syracuse.
If you are unable to attend either walk-in registration date, you may print a registration form from CNSOptimist.com and mail it, along with payment ($95 for players in grades 3-4 and $100 for players in grades 5-9; $175 for two family members and $250 for three or more family members), to CNS Optimist Club, PO Box 3883, North Syracuse, NY 13220.
Checks should be made payable to the CNS Optimist Club. Deadline for registration is Wednesday, Sept. 22.
All girls in grades 5-9 will participate in a Skills Evaluation Night on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Gillette Road Middle School. Grades 5-6 will begin at 5:45 p.m. and grades 7-9 will begin at 6:45 p.m.
All teams are coached by parents/volunteers. If you are interested in coaching, please indicate so on the registration form. Coaches for grades 5-9 must attend a coaches meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the CanTeen, 6046 Route 31 (next to C-NS High School), and the skills evaluation on Wednesday, Sept 29. Coaches for grades 3 and 4 must attend the coaches meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 29, at Gillette Road Middle School.
A short, but important, parents’ meeting will take place Saturday, Oct. 9, before your daughter’s game. Please make every effort to have a parent or guardian attend this meeting.
The Optimist Club will provide a concession stand every Saturday, selling Gatorade, water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, doughnuts, candy and snacks. All proceeds benefit the club’s programs for the youth of our community.
The CNS Optimist Club will follow all COVID-19 protocols as established by the North Syracuse Central School District.
