To The Editor:
We are writing in response to the letter to the editor from Barry Schreibman published in the September 28 Cazenovia Republican. I strongly object to Mr. Shreibman attacking Pat Carmeli’s character because he objects to the views of invited speakers. I feel equally strongly that it is inaccurate and potentially inflammatory to call those speakers extremists.
While, it is clear that Mr Schreibman felt shorted because he did not have the opportunity to offer contradictory information and opinions, the forums were designed to provide a view that has not received equal exposure. There was, in fact, an opportunity for questions, but this was not the right venue for a debate.
I believe that the history and current situation between Israel and Palestine is enormously complicated and only great courage and leadership will lead to a solution. Condemning each other will only extend an unsustainable and heartbreaking problem that is reality for both Palestinian and Israeli children and families.
We can do better.
