LIVERPOOL — New Interactive Play area equipment is quickly making folks happy in the Liverpool Public Library Children’s Room.
The Grow with Me experience includes the colorful Pixel wall everybody spots to the right of the Information Desk while entering the room; the Crafts Table backed by the Interactive Wall just past that; and the paired Play Table and Literacy Ladder at the rear of the room.
Librarian Joellyn Murry, coordinator of the LPL’s Children and Family Services department, says she sees this latest stage of Children’s Room’s renovations bringing generations together. The new equipment was finished and the room’s doors reopened on Thursday, Sept. 23.
“They love playing with the Play Table, trying on the vests, playing with the (toy) fruits and vegetables,” Murry said. “The Pixel Wall, they like turning the colors. And the staff has been making patterns on that, too.”
Murry said Grow with Me will further the Early Childhood Alliance Onondaga’s principal of Talk Read Sing, with signs on the Literacy Ladder helping advance the concepts through meaningful campaign phrases.
“I’m really excited because it’s a place for parents to come with their kids to explore and hang out in a safe environment,” Murry said.
The Interactive Play area equipment will provide children and parents the opportunity to discover new areas of the learning process together as the years go by.
LPL librarians will update themes and accompanying books, toys and manipulative pieces to stir creativity and the imagination.
“This is a cohesive area, interactive for children and families to engage,” said LPL Assistant Director Susan Reckhow, “and for caregivers to realize they are their children’s first and best teacher, and everyday moments are teaching moments.”
