Dorothea Ethridge , 96

Dorothea Dunmore “Dorie” Ethridge , 96,  formerly of Cazenovia and Manlius, passed away peacefully on Nov. 8, 2016,  in Syracuse. She was born to Jessie and Russell Dunmore in Utica, N.Y.  She graduated from New Hartford High School and attended Wells College before marrying E. H. “Hunt” Ethridge Jr. in 1941. He predeceased her in 2007.
Dorie was a devoted mother to her eight children, an avid reader and owner of numerous dogs, cats and a variety of other animals. Besides raising her children, she was most proud of the many foreign exchanges students she hosted and foster kids that stayed in her home. She loved to work in her garden and always had fresh food on the dinner table. Her favorite place to be in the summer was with her children and pets at Henderson Harbor at the beloved cottage built by her father in the 1920s.
She is survived by her four sons, Hunt (Edie) of Sanibel, Fl, Michael of Philadelphia, Pa., Stephen of Syracuse, and Peter (Uli) of Lafayette, N.Y.: four daughters, Antoinette (Michael) Gilligan of Cambridge, Ma, Elizabeth of Manlius, Martha (Don) Andrews of Austin, Tx and Geraldine (Ted) Lowery of  Newton, NC, 15 grandchildren, two predeceased her, and 12 great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours or funeral.  A family memorial service will be held at a later date for burial in the Rome Cemetery.
A contribution to a charitable animal organization or library in her name would make her very happy.
