NEW WOODSTOCK – Next month, the Open Door Baptist Church in New Woodstock will be covering community members’ laundry costs at Genesee Cleaners in Cazenovia.
Members of the church will be stationed at the cleaners on March 2 from noon to 2 p.m., March 9 from 6 to 8 p.m., March 16 from noon to 2 p.m., and March 23 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The church has offered to pay for up to four loads of laundry per household, and to provide detergent, if needed.
“No need to sign up, simply show up . . .” said Pastor Dave DeLeon. “We will be at a table and will gladly pay for anyone’s laundry who could use the help. If someone could really benefit from this, we hope they won’t be shy.”
According to DeLeon, the laundry initiative has been repeated at a number of other churches hoping to serve their communities in some way.
“This is just a small gesture, of course, but if it helps free up a little cash flow for those who have been strapped lately, then great,” he said. “Our inspiration to offer this was simply a desire to reach out to our community as a display of love that Jesus Christ has shown to all of us.”
