Recently, Connor Yorks, an Eagle Scout from Cazenovia, was hired as the marketing specialist for the Leatherstocking Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
The Leatherstocking Council provides character development and leadership skills training to 3,800 Scouts in Delaware, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Otsego and Schoharie counties, as well as parts of Hamilton and Lewis counties.
“As a marketer, my number one job is to make sure that the Leatherstocking Council, BSA is looking its best on all fronts, including its websites and social media accounts,” said Yorks. “However, with that description being so broad, I end up being what is in essence Leatherstocking Council’s Swiss army knife of creativity. From videography to branding and plenty in between, I end up performing a wide variety of creative functions.”
A Cazenovia College alumnus, Yorks holds a bachelor of fine arts in visual communications with concentrations in both graphic design and advertising design.
Since graduating, he has been doing contracted videography and photography projects for various organizations, including the Leatherstocking Council.
He began his new, full-time job on Jan. 4, 2021.
“[Connor is] a great addition to our team and we believe he’ll prove to quickly increase the awareness of our programs across Delaware, Hamilton, Herkimer, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Otsego and Schoharie counties,” said Leatherstocking Council Director of Development James Hastie. “As a volunteer, Connor produced several drone videos of our various programs that have helped grow our followers on Facebook. He’s [also] created an Instagram account for our Scouts and, in his first week, he has already signed up 500+ new followers.”
Yorks started Cub Scouts in 2006 and has been participating in Scouting ever since.
“The main reason I stay in scouting is because I’m doing great work while having even greater fun,” he said. “Scouting to me is the most amazing youth program because it provides the perfect balance of learning and enjoyment. There are few places that can achieve purposeful fun. . . [In my new position,] I plan to do my very best to share with CNY the amazing local Scouting community around them and how it inspires the upcoming generations to do their very best for all.”
