Cookbook Club: Mediterranean | Wednesday, January 10th at 6:00 PM | This month’s theme is Mediterranean. Bring a prepared dish to share and the cookbook/recipe that inspired the dish. Everyone will have a chance to sample dishes from an assortment of cookbooks while only having to prepare one dish. Make sure you come hungry! Operation SAVE: Supporting Veterans at Risk | Friday, January 12th at 1:00 PM | Daniel Hillman from the Syracuse VA will help attendees to develop a general understanding of the problem of suicide in the United States, how to identify a Veteran who may be at risk for suicide; and, finally, how to act with
care and compassion if you come across a Veteran who is in crisis or having thoughts of suicide. For adults.
Morning Book Club: The Woman They Could Not Silence | Monday, January 15 at 10:30 AM | This month we’re reading The Woman They Could Not Silence by Kate Moore, a dark and dramatic but ultimately uplifting tale of a forgotten woman whose inspirational journey sparked lasting change for women’s rights and exposed injustices that still resonate today.

Guitar Concert: Anthony LaLena | Saturday, January 20th at 7:30 PM | As a versatile soloist and chamber musician, LaLena remains an active musician at home in Western New York, where he has been a fixture at the annual Great Lakes Guitar Society Festival in Buffalo as a performer and lecturer, and a frequent guest at the Little Theatre’s Classical Guitar Night in Rochester. Most recently, Dr. LaLena was honored to perform Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Concerto for Guitar and Small Orchestra at the Eastman School of Music as the winner of the Eastman Concerto Competition.
Dr. LaLena holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he served as a teaching assistant to Dr. Nicholas Goluses and was a recipient of the prestigious Performer’s Certificate for outstanding musical performance.
Writer’s Club | Tuesday, January 23rd at 4:00 PM | Writer’s Club is for kids who love to tell their own stories. Librarian Mary Beth will pose a writing prompt and kids will have time to develop and write their own short stories. For ages 8 – 12.
Evening Book Club: Great Circle | Wednesday, January 31st at 6:30 PM | This month we’re reading Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead. Spanning Prohibition-era Montana, the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, New Zealand, wartime London, and modern-day Los Angeles, Great Circle tells the unforgettable story of a daredevil female aviator determined to chart her own course in life, at any cost.

Wolf Moon Neighborhood Walk | Thursday, January 25th at 4:00 PM | Celebrate the full moon during this nighttime walk at the library. First we’ll make paper lanterns to illuminate our path, and then walk a loop downtown as we observe January’s Wolf Moon and all the winter intricacies in our neighborhood. No registration. After School Unwind | Tuesday, January 30th at 4:00 PM | Relax with sensory soothing activities at the library, including scented playdough, fizzing volcanoes, crunchy snacks, and stress balls to make and take home. For ages 8 – 12.

Be creative and have fun with this month’s Kit. Use this 4×4 canvas to paint, collage, or draw a very small masterpiece and then return it to the library by Wednesday, January 31st to be displayed as a part of our Tiny Art Show. All artists are invited to join us for a reception on Thursday, February 8th. For all ages.
