On June 26, Village of Cazenovia Mayor Kurt Wheeler provided an update on the local response to COVID-19.
Wheeler announced that Cazenovia was down to one active case of the virus following a recent spike in positive tests in the area.
The mayor also reported that local banks are in need of coins.
“One of the odd effects of the pandemic is a disruption at the U.S. mint, leading to a shortage of coins at our banks,” he said. “This is creating a hardship as businesses reopen and need change for their customers.”
Community members are encouraged to bring their change to a local bank and exchange it for cash.

Wheeler also delivered a message regarding the community’s July 4 celebration.
“It has been a long spring and we are all eager to celebrate not only our nation’s independence but all that we have gone through together,” he said.
The July 4 parade will form at 3:30 p.m. on Green Street and step off at 4 p.m. The route, which has been modified to allow for social distancing, will start on Green Street, go north on Sullivan, east on Ten Eyck, south on Lincklaen, down Albany Street, and finish going north on Forman back to Green Street.
Residents are asked to space out along the route to reduce the number of spectators on Albany Street and to bring masks.
Groups can still join the parade by emailing [email protected] or calling 315-655-9380.
“The same principle applies to the sidewalk sales and other events around the community,” Wheeler said. “We can celebrate the fourth and stay safe if we stay focused on sound prevention strategies: distance, wear a mask when needed, and wash your hands.”
