Each of Cicero-North Syracuse’s golf teams took some lumps in mid-September and the Blue side fell out of first place in the CNY Counties League – but did maintain local bragging rights. C-NS Blue’s brief two-match skid ended at the expense of rival Liverpool last Monday afternoon at Beaumont Country Club, with the Northstars pulling away to beat the Warriors 204-228. The race for low individual round proved close, with C-NS Blue’s duo of Jon Petrin and Patrick O’Donnell tying for first, each of them posting 38 for nine holes to beat out Liverpool’s Dan Mort, who finished with a 39. Brendan Villnave led C-NS’s getaway, earning a 42 as Matt Kane and Eric Cummins both shot 43. Meanwhile, Jullian LaTocha had a 43 for the Warriors, with Kenneth Krafft getting a 46. Elijah Marris and Spencer Baum both shot 50. Yet the Northstars lost a day later, falling to Auburn 198-208. Petrin’s 35 at Highland matched Maroons star Mike May, while O’Donnell had a 39, with Cummins posting a 42, one better than Villnave. But rounds of 37 by Ross Burgmaster and 39 by Trevor Hogan, backed up by a 43 from Alex Burgmaster and a 44 from Ryan Chalupnicki, helped Auburn pull away. In a big home match on Friday at Beaumont, C-NS Blue met Fayetteville-Manlius and lost for the fourth time in five matches, dropping a 198-204 decision to the Hornets. With every shot important, Wes Smiley managed a 38 to match F-M’s Andrew Massa at the top of the standings, but two other Hornets, John Cacchio and Jason Coleman, both shot 39 to beat Petrin’s 40. O’Donnell, Villnave and Cummins all posted 42, one behind the Hornets’ Sam Lipe and Tim Zapisek, whose 41s helped the Hornets hang on. C-NS Green recorded its best victory of the season last Monday at Northern Pines, turning back the Baldwinsville Bees in a close 205-207 decision. Justin Pellegrino, with a 37, led the Northstars and beat B’ville’s Maxwell Dec (38) for low individual round, and Nick Ernestine added a 39. The Bees tried to catch up. Zach Ravas shot a 41, Andrew Roberts added a 42 and Carson Hayes and Eion Tierney each posted rounds of 43. But C-NS Green held on as Chris Ranalli and Josh Matyasik both finished at 42 and Nick Bough managed a 44. Looking to replicate that same magic against CNYCL-leading West Genesee 24 hours later, C-NS Green could not do so, taking a 189-211 defeat to the Wildcats, who won its ninth match in a row. Ernestine shot a 40, with Ranalli and Ryan Sisco both finishing at 42, just in front of Carson Carino (43) and Andrew Brunozzi (44). No one could catch WG’s Dylan Plis, though, as he blistered his home course at Westvale with a 32, seven shots ahead of a trio of teammates – Sean Stanistreet, Nick Bove and Dom Pensabene. C-NS Green, like its Blue counterparts, would also go to Highland and lose to Auburn, this one a 182-204 decision on Thursday where May and Hogan both shot 34 for the Maroons. Ernestine and Ranalli led the Northstars with matching totals of 39, followed by Justin Pellegrino, who had a 40, with Kyle Kuhn adding a 42 and Matt Thornhill contributing a 43. Liverpool would defeat the combined Syracuse city team 203-276 on Wednesday at Drumlins, and then went to Woodcrest Thursday to face Fayetteville-Manlius, where LaTocha shot the low individual round of 36. Still, the Warriors lost, 190-204, to the Hornets, who had six players shoot 39 or better, led by rounds of 37 from Andrew Massa and John Cacchio, in front of Baum and Marris, who both played well, too, each shooting 41 as Krafft and Tyler Dorval both finished at 43. Liverpool returned home Friday to face Baldwinsville, and though Mort led all individuals with a 37, the Warriors lost, 199-212, to the Bees, who had all five of its top individuals post 41 or better, including 39s from Dec and Matt Monaco. LaTocha had a 41, while Baum got a 43, Jake Sisto shot a 45 and Tyler Dorval posted a 46.
