At its Oct. 24 meeting the village board moved to impose a 9 p.m. curfew for Thurdsay, Oct. 31, Halloween night. This is something that the village has done in past years in the interest of safety, Trustee Sue Jones said.
In other business:
–Director of Municipal Operation Bob Lotkowictz said that the inside of the water tower tank may need a partial or full repainting. The contractors who recently finished painting the outside of the tower also inspected and did a report on the interior per the village’s request. The matter is not urgent, but the village should come up with a long term plan because it would an expensive project, Lotkowictz said.
–The village moved to waive the fees for site plan approval and building permits for Austin Park baseball field improvements.
Lakeshore Baseball is planning on doing improvements to the three baseball fields in Austin Park next year and the board has historically waived the fees because the work is in a public park and will benefit the whole community.
–The board discussed the prospect of installing new memorial benches in the village. Village Clerk Patty Couch said the wood benches cost $1,250 plus about $400 for shipping. That price includes a memorial plaque. Couch has a list of potential locations for the benches and anyone interested in paying for a new memorial bench should call the village office.
–Mayor Marty Hubbard said that village water customers will be charged a new surcharge of $1.65 per month due to debt the village has taken on for its chlorine contact and ultraviolet disinfection system. The surcharge will be reflected on the October bills Couch said.
