Dan Maffei, Democratic candidate for the 24th District Congressional seat, received the backing of New York’s senior U.S. senator last week.
Sen. Charles Schumer made the announcement at a press conference at Mohawk Global Logistics near Hancock Airport in Syracuse on Oct. 10, citing Maffei’s record during his one term in Congress, as well as his stated commitment to the middle class, job creation and the economy.
“Dan Maffei has always put middle-class families first and has a strong record of getting things done,” Schumer said. “Syracuse residents know they’ll once again have a fighter in Washington who is a real leader on the issues that matter to working families and seniors.”
Maffei said he was pleased by the endorsement.
“I am honored to have the support of Sen. Schumer, who has fought tirelessly for Central New Yorkers,” Maffei said. “I look forward to working with Sen. Schumer to strengthen our middle class, create jobs, and get the economy moving again.”
Buerkle endorsed by the NRA
Meanwhile, Maffei’s Republican opponent, incumbent Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle, was endorsed by the National Rifle Association.
NRA Director of Federal Affairs James Baker thanked Buerkle for her “unwavering support of the Second Amendment.”
“We urge our members, gun owners and sportsmen in New York’s 24th Congressional District to vote for [Buerkle] on Nov. 6,” Baker said.
According to the endorsement, Buerkle earned accolades for co-sponsoring H.R. 822, The National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act. The act “would ensure that law-abiding Americans with a valid concealed handgun license would be able to carry their concealed firearm in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry.”
