Back in action, the Baldwinsville girls indoor track and field team topped most of the field in Friday’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena.
By picking up 36 points, the Bees, who did not compete in the snow-delayed Bob Grieve Invitational earlier in the week, finished third. Only Fayetteville-Manlius (72 points) and Jamesville-DeWitt (46 points) did better.
Stephanie Vasteno worked her way to second place in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.83 seconds as Homer’s Jekeytha Adams (9.23 seconds) prevailed. Also, in the 4×200 relay Vasteno, joined by Cierra Allen, Angelica Tomasello and Gina Carnovale, got second place in 1:51.82, trailing only J-D, who won in 1:50.41.
Mackenzie Ross gave B’ville another runner-up finish, her time of 1:42.67 in the 600-meter run second to F-M’s Katie Brislin (1:37.55). Carnovale gained third place in the 55-meter dash in 7.65 seconds.
B’ville also worked its way to third place in the 4×800 relay, where Ross, Kim Cushman, Chandra Hewitt and seventh-grader Mia Bolton finished in a time of 10:46.47. Emily Soeder had the Bees’ best finish in a field event, tying for seventh (4 feet 8 inches) in the high jump.
In the boys edition of the Kirschenheiter meet, B’ville picked up 18 points, finishing alone in eighth place. Cicero-North Syracuse won with 63.5 points.
Many of those points came in the 4×800 relay, where Josh Perez, Matt Pond, Andy Fleming and Chris Twichell finished second in 8:40.02, trailing only F-M, who won in 8:30.88.
Fleming, on his own, had a third-place time of 1:27.57 in the 600-meter run. Shay Sargeant, Austin McAskill, Dan Walker and Nate Hicks were sixth in the 4×200 relay in 1:38.79. Kirk Anderson was sixth in the shot put, throwing it 40 feet 11 ¾ inches.
