After a controversial spring vote that swept aside more than 50 years experience of coaching lacrosse at Jordan-Elbridge, the board of education voted Wednesday to restore the original positions.
At the Dec. 7 regular board meeting, the board voted 6-to-0 with one abstention to reinstate Richard Young and Patrick Smart as the boys varsity head and assistant coaches, respectively. Brian Richardson chose to abstain from the vote due to his son’s position with the team. The board also voted 7-0 for the approval of Michael Frood and James Gunnip, the boys modified head and assistant coaches. Thomas Leonti will be the girls modified assistant coach.
In March, the board voted against the re-appointment of Pat Smart’s twin brother, Mike, as J-V coach, 3-to-4. The J-V program was cut in the 2011-12 budget to save money.
The board also voted 3-3, with board member Brian Richardson abstaining, on the re-appointment of Rick Young as varsity coach, resulting in his removal from the lacrosse program.
