Six people — including five alumni — make up the first class of inductees into the newly created Hamilton Central Schools Hall of Honor. They will be honored during Hamilton’s Fourth of July Weekend, which this year includes an all-class reunion and 50th anniversary celebration of the West Kendrick Street School.
The inaugural class entering the hall includes Bruce Lamb, Class of ’35; Robert “Bob” Peach, Class of ’62; Barclay Potter, Class of ’70; Carol Gallik Karlson, Class of ’74; Katie Murphy, Class of 2001; Leo Kiley, former HCS math teacher.
They will be inducted July 3 as part of a day-long celebration at the school. The ceremony will be held in the school auditorium.
The inductees were chosen by a committee led by April Cady.
Bob Peach
Peach graduated from Hamilton Central School in 1962. While at HCS he was widely regarded as one of the best athletes in the Chenango Valley. He quarterbacked an undefeated football squad, and captaining the baseball team and he was a two time all-star pitcher. After graduation, he attended Oneonta State and worked for General Electric in Utica, retiring after 25 years.
Bruce Lamb
Lamb graduated from Hamilton Central School in 1935, and was a member of the 1933 undefeated football squad. He graduated from Ithaca College and received his master’s from that college. He came to Hamilton in 1965 as athletic director and coached football until he retired from both positions in 1981.
Carol Gallik Karlson
Gallik Karlson graduated from HCS in 1974. She was a standout athlete in many sports and was also varsity cheerleader all four years. In her senior year she was voted most athletic. She graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury, NC and was valedictorian from Tufts University Medical School in 1991. Gallik Karlson is an emergency physician in Georgia.
Katie Murphy
Murphy is a 2001 graduate of HCS. She was an outstanding athlete, leading the basketball, soccer and softball teams and was a sectional champion in track. She attended Harvard University where she played 4 years of varsity basketball. She lives in New York City and works for Credit Suisse Bank.
Barclay Potter
Potter graduated in 1970 from Hamilton Central School, where he four sport athlete participating in football, ice hockey, baseball and track. He graduated from Alfred University in 1974 with a sociology and psychology. From 1974-1988 he played semi pro hockey with the Copper City Chiefs and in 1976 he skated for the Mohawk Valley Comets. He has been a coach at HCS since 1990 and was named Hamilton Sports Booster of the Year in 2005. He lives in Hamilton
Leo Kiley
Kiley graduated in 1941 from high school in Homer, NY where he played basketball, baseball and soccer. From 1943 until 1946 he served in the Navy. He graduated from Villanova University in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in education and then received his master’s degree from University of Pennsylvania in 1951. Kiley joined the staff of HCS and taught math for the next 27 years until his retirement in 1981. He also coached basketball. He lives in Hamilton.
