There will be a boater’s safety course offered from 5 to 9 p.m. June 29 and July 6 at Willow Bank Yacht Club on Forman Street in Cazenovia.
Youth between the ages of 10 and 18 who want to operate a motor boat in New York State alone and anyone who wants to operate a personal watercraft, such as a jet ski, must successfully complete this course and receive an operators certificate. The course and materials are provided free of charge to participating youth and adults.
The course follows a state-mandated outline and covers topics such as rights-of -way, safety equipment, water skiing procedures, and unlawful practices. Both sessions of the course must be attended and an exam passed at the completion of the course in order to receive the certificate.
The course is being sponsored by the Cazenovia Lake Association, Willow Bank Yacht Club and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department in association with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.
There is no fee for the course and all materials needed will be provided. Participants must pre-register. Interested persons can contact Anne King at 655-2244. Those calling should leave a message with their name, the number of people to register and a contact phone number.
