Cazenovia College will honor the Greater Cazenovia Area Chamber of Commerce at the 15th Annual Cazenovia College-Community Block Party from noon to 3 p.m. June 26 on the College Quad.
The Greater Cazenovia Area Chamber of Commerce will be honored for its commitment “to the active development of commerce and investment in the greater Cazenovia area and to serving the common needs of businesses operating in the area, with a particular emphasis on small businesses.”
“Cazenovia College and the other businesses in Cazenovia have depended upon each other for 184 years,” GCACC chair Ralph Monforte said. “The College is what makes our community unique, and the Block Party is a wonderful symbol of the special nature of that relationship.”
Games and activities will be free, along with party t-shirts, helium balloons and cotton candy. Picnic food and Walk-Away Sundaes will be available for purchase. Rick and Ryan Gifford of Distant Fog DJ Service will provide music throughout the party. Members of local law enforcement will be on hand to display safety equipment and distribute information for community members.
A raffle of donated prizes will begin at 2:45 p.m. Raffle prizes will include tickets to The WILD Center Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks in Tupper Lake, a family membership to the Sciencenter in Ithaca, adult tickets for the Corning Museum of Glass; tickets for the Syracuse Opera and more. Raffle ticket holders must be present to win.
Of the more than 200 volunteers who staff the Block Party, most are College employees, joined many community members. Prospective volunteers may call Sylvia at 655-7261 to sign up.
Volunteers are joined this year by a number of women from the Junior League of Syracuse, Inc., the 2009 lead sponsor. In addition to monetary sponsorship, a number of Junior League members will be on hand to staff an information table. JLS is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through educational and charitable activities. The Block Party is one of the League’s “Done In A Day” projects, which gives every JLS member an opportunity to participate in a hands-on experience that has significant impact on the community.
