The game plan was to score early and keep on scoring. Following the plan the Bear Country 11-12 year old All Stars coasted to an easy victory against the VVS Nationals in the game played at Sherrill. This victory was made sweeter since VVS eliminated the Bears from the All Star Tournament the past two years.
As in the past two games the Bears scored in the first inning. With Robbie Cuomo on first after a base hit Ryan Kendrick connected for a home run for an early 2-0 lead. In the second inning three more runs were scored helped by three fielding errors by VVS.
The score remained 5-0 through three innings. Robbie Cuomo, pitching for Bear Country held VVS hitless and struck out the side in the third. No runs were scored by the Bears in the third despite three walks. Realizing the missed opportunity the Bears would not let that happen again.
Erik Kruz started the fourth inning getting to first after the shortstop let the ball go between his legs. Cuomo walked and then Kurz scored on a base hit by Wes Burghardt. Kendrick singled for another run and Greg Jasek followed with a double scoring another run. This ended the long night for VVS pitcher Jake Voelker who threw over 80 pitches. Reliever Simon Pittman was greeted with three straight singles and three more runs. Ten batters came to bat before the first out was recorded.
The big blow came with Wes Burghardt hitting a two run home run scoring the last two runs. In the inning 16 batters came to bat and 11 runs were scored with only 7 hits.
VVS scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth after three straight errors by the Bears infield. With a ten run lead after four innings the game was over and the Bears remained undefeated. This sets the stage for game Monday night against Rome American who is also undefeated.
