CENTRAL NEW YORK – On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the Fayetteville-Manlius softball team claimed an epic 17-16 victory over Fulton that included an astonishing comeback.
Fulton led 12-1 going to the bottom of the fourth, but an eight-run outburst brought the Hornets back in the game. Then the Red Raiders built its margin to 16-10 by the top of the sixth.
However, helped in no small part by Fulton’s 10 errors, F-M rallied again, scoring four times in the bottom of the sixth and winning it with three runs in the seventh.
Gwen O’Connor hit a home run as she and Olivia Sczerbaniewicz, with three RBIs apiece, led the comeback. Anna Egan added three this as she and Evie Russell drove in two runs apiece.
Back on Tuesday, F-M absorbed a 10-3 defeat to Whitesboro this despite Megan Woodridge ripping a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. Whitesboro used a run in the bottom of the first and four runs in the second to go in front, Egan taking the loss as Julanna Hall saw a two-inning relief stint.
But the Hornets, in a hint at the drama to follow a day later, beat Central Square 11-9 on Friday afternoon, with nine different players recording hits. Avery Howe drove in three runs with her pair of hits as O’Connor, Egan and Natalie Mayne, had two RBIs apiece.
Christian Brothers Academy had a big game last Wednesday against Baldwinsville, where it got on the scoreboard, but still was overwhelmed in a 21-6 loss to the Bees.
Juliette Zimmerman did pick up a pair of doubles and finished with three RBIs. Both Zimmerman and Avery Bowman scored twice as Ayla Fleming and Julianna Gingrich led B’ville with three hits apiece.
Before that, CBA defeated Homer 6-2 last Tuesday afternoon .Gracie Battles drove in three runs, with Zimmerman going three-for-four and Allison Boule getting a pair of RBIs. Hannah Reilly also got an RBI.
A 15-1 defeat to Cicero-North Syracuse on Friday followed the B’ville defeat, the Northstars getting nine runs in the first inning after CBA’s lone tally came in the top of the first.
