The Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps is hosting “Onondaga Lake: A Treasured Ecosystem Returning,” a presentation by Onondaga Lake fisheries expert Neil Ringler, from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, on the sixth-floor Skydeck of Destiny USA. Following the presentation, an Audubon naturalist will lead a birding walk from 3-4 p.m. along the Onondaga Creekwalk, a popular bald eagle viewing location.
Ringler has studied the Onondaga Lake fishery for more than 30 years and is a vice provost at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF). He will discuss improvements at Onondaga Lake and nearby tributaries that are providing restored habitat for fish, birds, invertebrates and plants, and how research and monitoring will continue to fuel improvements to the ecosystem.
Interested community members are asked to RSVP to Montezuma Audubon Center at [email protected] with the subject line “Onondaga Lake” or call315-365-3588 by February 16. Suggested donation is $5.
The event is hosted by the Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps, an expanding organization of community volunteers who are contributing to restoration projects that are creating or improving wildlife habitat in the Onondaga Lake watershed.
