CENTRAL NEW YORK – Three times in a span of six days the Baldwinsville track and field teams would take on most of its Salt City Athletic Conference competition, whether in isolation or in larger events.
The biggest of them all came at the end of this stretch with last Saturday’s Chittenango Invitational, where the Bees tied Fayetteville-Manilus for third in the boys division with 51 points behind CBA and Cicero-North Syracuse.
Leading the Bees, London Premo was victorious in the five-event pentathlon, his score of 2.671 points just ahead of the 2,624 from Jamesville-DeWitt’s Terrell Willis. Owen Johnson cleared 10 feet and was victorious in the pole vault.
Chris Zellar’s 51.98 seconds in the 400-meter dash was second to CBA’s Daniel Abbe (51.49). Dom Dottolo was third in the full-field mile in 4:47.72 before the Bees took third in the 4×100 relay in 46.29 seconds. Wyatt Decker had a thrid-place triple jump of 38’8 1/4” as Kayden Gilbert cleared 5’6” for fifth place in the high jump.
B’ville’s girls were fifth out of 21 teams at the Chittenango meet with 38.5 points and it nearly won the pentathlon here, too, Rachel Becker’s 2,178 points trailing only the 2,565 of Cato-Meridian’s Maggie Brown.
Madelyn Donhauser went 5:42.50 for second place in the full-field mile, while in the featured Fleet Feet Mile Kamryn Barton finished sixth in 5:21.66. Leah Bahamonde threw the discus 93’11” for third place to go with a seventh in the shot put.
Mariah LeGrow claimed third in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.07. Emerson Clavijo got fourth (1:02.89) and Emmy Buchanan fifth (1:03.02) in the 400-meter dash, while Yolanda Wei was fifth in the 2,000 steeplechase.
All this started last Monday at East Syracuse Minoa with a five-team meet involving the Bees and Spartans along with C-NS, West Genesee and Central Square.
B’ville won several events including the girls 200-meter dash where Clavijo took it in 26.52 seconds in a top-three sweep with Aaniya Johnson (26.73) and Mia Roberts (27.48).
Clavijo was also second (13.39 seconds) and Roberts third (13.73) in the 100-meter dash before the Bees got second in the 4×100 relay in 53.83 and, in the 4×400, Clavijo, Johnson, Emmy Buchanan and Amerie Williams took first in 4:15.09. Buchanan (1:01.13) held off Williams (1:01.74) for first place in the 400 sprint.
Barton’s 4:57.77 edged Central Square’s Kadence Williams (4:58.78) in the 1,500-meter run before taking second in the 800 in 2:23.16. Donhauser beat the field in the 3,000 in 11:13.40, with Ella DiFio third.Kate DeFio topped 8 feet for second in the pole vault as LeGrow was third in the 400 hurdles and Bahamonde third in the discus going 84 feet.
On the boys side Cooper Chrisman, Jeremy Francisco, Bryzon Nicholson and Brian Lavinscout paired up to take the 4×100 relay in 46.08 seconds to WG’s 46.61. Jacob Guelli, in 10:35.20, held off Ben Forman (10:36.53) to win at 3,200 meters.
Arthur Bullock, in 23.51 seconds, was a close second to WG’s Wyatt Scott (23.41) in the 200, with Bullock adding a second in the long jump going 19’9 1/2”.
Decker took second in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.32 to go with a fourth in the triple jump and Rex Kirkegaard was third in the 400-meter dash in 53.55 seconds. Logan Bolton went 2:08.99 for third place in the 800. Gilbert cleared 5’6” to finish second in the high jump, with Joe Pasho fourth in the discus.
Going head-to-head against Henninger was next on Wednesday afternoon, and the boys Bees won 84-48 while the girls got away form the Black Knights to prevail 87-26.
Premo led the boys Bees on the track, first in both the 110 hurdles in 17.23 seconds and the 400 hurdles in 1:00.93 adding a third title in the long jump going 20’8 1/2” and adding a 40’8” in the triple jump.
Andrew Fry topped 9’6” in the pole vault and Kallen Kennedy threw the shot put 44’6”, with Guelli needing 11:06.34 to finish first in the 3,200.
Bullock won the 100 in 11.40 to the 11.42 of Henninger’s Alex Acevedo and was second (23.19) to Gilbert (22.97) in the 200. Kirkegaard ran the 800 in 2:11.58 edging Peyton Brutcher (2:12.39) as Decker won the 400 sprint in 52.57 seconds.
To lead the girls Bees, Clavijo ran the 100 in 12.76 seconds and the 200 in 26.42 to Roberts’ 26.80. A sweep of the distance races had Isabella Arria winning the 800 in 2:39.74, Wei taking the 1,500 and Mia Bush edging Wei to win the 3,000.
Bahamonde had a discus throw of 106 feet and shot put toss of 32’6” LeGrow’s time of 1:02.44 topped the field in the 400 sprint, Williams adding a 400 hurdles title in 1:17.38. Kate DeFio topped 8 feet and won the pole vault.
