Cicero — NOPL patrons now have access to digital comic books and a larger collection of e-books than ever before through the digital service Hoopla.
Hoopla launched at NOPL two years ago as a service that allows patrons to borrow television shows, movies, music albums and audiobooks, but has since grown.
Comic book choices in Hoopla abound, with popular series like “The Walking Dead” and titles from DC Entertainment, “Peanuts” and “Garfield,” as well as many classic titles. The Hoopla app has a special feature called “Action View,” allowing graphics and illustrations to be viewed one panel at a time.
Hoopla’s e-book collection has something for everyone too: choose from New York Times Bestsellers, fiction and non-fiction titles, Disney picture books for children, and even popular series like “Star Wars.”
In addition to the new items that can be found in Hoopla, the digital service is now compatible with Chromecast streaming devices, which can be borrowed at any NOPL location. Chromecast is a small device that plugs into your television and pairs with your mobile device via your wireless Internet connection. It works with certain apps, including the Hoopla app, to “cast” the screen of your mobile onto your television.
There is no waiting to borrow titles on Hoopla because content can be enjoyed by multiple patrons simultaneously. Patrons will never be charged an overdue fee for digital content since items simply expire when the borrowing period ends.
You can get started with Hoopla by visiting nopl.org/hoopla. You’ll need your NOPL library card and PIN when you first set up your Hoopla account. If you don’t already have a card or if you need your PIN reset, just stop by your nearest NOPL location — we’re happy to help!
