Baldwinsville girls wrestlers host Queen Bee Tournament

Boys Bees remain unbeaten in league, handle Fayetteville-Manlius

ONONDAGA COUNTY – A total of 11 girls wrestling teams gathered at Baker High School on the first Saturday of 2025 to take part in Baldwinsvlle’s Queen Bee Tournament, with the hosts garnering a fifth-place finish.

All told, the Bees got 117.5 points. A close race at the top had Homer prevail with 174.5 points to runner-up Holland Patent’s 164.5.

Two B’ville wrestlers got to their respective finals. At 114 pounds Arianna Leo got a semifinal pin over Cicero-North Syracuse’s Lilliana Chirazia to reach the title bout only to fall to Phoenix’s Sonia Munetz.

Breanna Leo also earned a berth in the championship round at 152 pounds but lost 10-0 to Homer’s Molly Sorenson, while Haylee Robinson grabbed third place at 126 pounds when she pinned Indian River’s Peyton Toutant in 94 seconds.

Two other Bees finished fifth. Cheyenne Chapman (132 pounds) pinned C-NS’s Savanna Abbott for that spot and Iliyana Malinova did so at 235 pounds beating Phoenix’s Saydee Miner 8-4.

As a follow-up last Wednesday night the B’ville girls faced Fulton, a long-time rivalry on the boys side but now just as active on the girls side with the emergence of both programs.

The Red Dragons prevailed 43-21, winning every bout from 132 to 235 pounds, seven in all, but the Bees managed wins in four of the six lightest weight classes.

Ja’Na Macina needed just 60 seconds to pin 120-pound opponent Rose Douglas. Arianna Leo pinned Karina Santana in 2:29, with Robinson pinning Sophia Canales in 2:26 and, at 100 b pounds, Jailey Crysler needing 5:30 for a pin over Ava Bartholomew.

This happened as B’ville’s boys wrestling team resumed league competition and, staying in first place in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division, defeated Fayetteville-Manlius 41-22.

Since they started at 101 pounds the Bees bolted to a 21-0 edge before the Hornets could get on the board. Zach Boudreau pinned Cayden Stewart in 60 seconds and Brennan Kline (108 pounds) needed just 45 seconds for his pin of Ivan Velez.

A forfeit to Christian Bear at 116 pounds was followed by a battle at 124 pounds where Cael Bruce moved to 26-1 on the season but needed all six minutes to hold off F-M’s Joe Rafuse 12-9.

Another string began at 138 pounds with Scottie Warner’s 89-second pin of Gavin McIlvain. Brendan Fredenburg (145 pounds) got a 17-2 technical fall over Graham Dauszka and, at 152 pounds, Cameron Sullivan beat Zach Henderson 15-9.

F-M did rebound with wins in four of the five heaviest weight classes, but Davian Longo, at 170 pounds, added six more points for B’ville when he pinned Jacob Pavlov late in the second period.
