CENTRAL NEW YORK – Both the Solvay and West Genesee bowling teams now make Strike-N-Spare Lanes their home base, and put up some strong efforts early in the 2023-24 season.
Solvay’s girls team got off to a 2-0 start, beginning on Nov. 30 when it took out Homer 7-0 with a steady team performance led by Dallas Steinbrecher.
Shooting a third game of 183, Steinbrecher posted a 410 series, best among individuals, but Miranda Leggett was close behind with a 404 set as Amelila Romeo (373 series), Gabriella LaFlair (362 series) and Nydia Rentas (345 series) helped, too.
Another 7-0 shutout followed last Monday, the Bearcats handling Cortland with LaFlair leading the way thanks to her 433 series. Rentas improved dramatically to a 399 series as only Emma Smith, with a 442 series, led the Purple Tigers.
By contrast, the Solvay boys were 0-2 following shutouts by Homer and Cortland. Against the Trojans, Justin Zimmerman did shoot a 558 series with games of 202, 183 and 173, while Joe Metoling had a 436 set.
Then, falling to Cortland by that same 7-0 margin, Zimmerman slightly improved to a 562 series thanks to games of 194, 193 and 175, Meloing also upping his score to a 460 set as Jeremie Hale, for the Purple Tigers, shot 258 and 245 during his 671 series.
Then, in Wednesday’s match with Bishop Grimes, Zimmerman started with a 267 game, close to perfection, adding a 216 and 225 to finish with a 708 total as Solvay blanked the Cobras 7-0.
Meanwhile, the Solvay girls also handled Grimes by that same 7-0 margin, with Rentas putting up a 177, 155 and 152 during her 484 series and Leggett opening with a 172 in her 401 series.
West Genesee met Baldwinsville last Monday in its season opener and the boys lost 7-0 to the Bees, though Jack Einlich shot a 620 series with games of 200, 221 and 199 and Alex Bigelow was close behind, his 234 game highlighting a 588 series. Jordan Sevigny led B’ville with a three-game total of 656.
Then a match with Liverpool on Friday when 4-3 in the Warriors’ favor, despite the best series from either side coming from WG’s Lorelai Leskoske.
Shooting games of 225, 235 and 200, Leskoske finished with a 660 series, while Bigelow’s 190, 214 and 201 produced a 605 set. Both beat the best Liverpool series of 580 from Tanner Gist as Jason Clifton had a 480 series for the Wildcats.
