SYRACUSE – Just as in seasons past, area indoor track and field teams will spend the majority of their season in large-scale meets at nearby SRC Arena, as they did Wednesday and Thursday for the annual Jack Morse Kickoff Meet.
The first session included West Genesee, who finished third in the boys division, and Westhill, who took second in the girls division behind only Jamesville-DeWitt.
Emma Murphy led the Westhill girls, winning the 55-meter hurdles in 9.17 seconds as Ava Baty (9.40) was third, while Mallie Alt was victorious in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet 6 inches, with Baty tied for fourth and Murphy sixth.
Isabel Leonardo added a second in the high jump, clearing 4 feet 10 inches, and a third in the 300-meter dash in 45.92. Eileen Mullen took third in the 3,000-meter run as the Warriors were fourth in the 4×400 relay and Jael Hill took fourth in the shot put with 32’2” and Morgan Heise was fourth in the weight throw with 31 feet.
As for West Genesee, Andrea Conklin went 1:47.89 for second place in the 600-meter run, while Peyton Long took second in the 1,500-meter run in 5:11.79. Grace McInerney got fourth place in the triple jump, going 30’7 3/4”, andsixth place in the long jump.
Westhill’s Drew O’Reilly was victorious in the 3,200-meter run in 9:50.50, with teammate Edward Popp fourth. Alex Dacko got second at 1,600 meters in 5:01.25, with Joe Pirong fifth in the weight throw, heaving it 41’2”.
West Genesee included a win in the boys 4×400 as Logan Scott, Will Fettig, Zach Hahn and James Mungro posted 3:38.22 to beat the field by more than two seconds.
Dylan Frost won the 55-meter dash in a personal-best 6.70 seconds, with Rhison Williams (6.95) third to go with a second in the 300 in 38.28 as Hahn took fifth place and Frost seventh,
Michael Gomes was victorious in the 600 in 1:28.69, edging Westhill’s Owen Mulholland (1:28.76) by seven-hundredths of a second. Hayden Rothenburg went 20 feet for third place in the high jump and Anthony Edgar was sixth as Mungro finished fifth in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 5’10”.
Other local teams were part of Thursday’s session, where Marcellus finished fourth in the boys division and Skaneateles tied for fifth, with Jordan-Elbridge and Solvay also taking part.
The Lakers were victorious when Will Feeney threw the shot put 45’8 3/4” and then, in the weight throw, claimed that event, too, going 53’6” as no one else even reached 42 feet. Solvay’s Anthony McCormack was fifth.
And the Eagles got a win from Alex Kunz, who took the 1,600 in 4:50.89, nearly five seconds ahead of the field as Skaneateles’ Ben Williams was fifth.
As for Marcellus, Xander Szalach, Paul Swenson, Andrew McCaffrey and Charles Donahue took second in the 4×200 in 1:40.79, with Skaneateles fourth in 1:43.62. McCaffrey was fifth in the pole vault behind the Lakers’ Ryan McCrone in fourth place.
Liam Eldridge was second for Marcellus in the 1,000 in 2:48.89, with Skaneteles’ Tristan Boucher fourth as Paul Swenson had a second-place long jump of 19’8” and third-place triple jump of 39’10 1/4”. Cameron Sadler threw the shot put 41’5” for third place behind Feeney. he Mustangs were fifth in the 4×800.
On the girls side, Skaneateles had Mara Stanton win the weight throw with a personal-best 42’3 ¼” as no one else topped 39 feet. Lucy Fleckenstein take fourth in the 1,000 in 3:25.31, with Bella Bjorling eighth.
Marcellus finished fourth in the 4×400 in 4:27.91, with Solvay sixth as Sophia Bianchi was fourth in the 55 hurdles and Corrine Aldrich took sixth in the 600. Lorelei Reffler was sixth in the high jump.
Abby Bates was seventh in the girls 3,000 for J-E, with Solvay’s Gabrielle Willsey fifth in the shot put (27’11”) and Rachel Willsey eighth in the 55 hurdles to go with a seventh in the long jump.
