Feeding off the momentum of strong efforts at its own invitational meet on Sept. 23, each of the Baldwinsville cross country teams would earn victories against long-time rival Liverpool last Wednesday at Durgee Junior High School.
It started with the girls Bees beating the Warriors 20-35, led by Kamryn Barton, who on the heels of her second-place run at the B’ville Invitational dominated the field and was part of a top-three B’ville individual sweep.
In 19 minutes, 45.3 seconds, Barton was more than a minute ahead of the 20:56.4 put up by fellow sophomore Yolanda Wei in second place.
Just as important was having freshman Ella DeFio get to third place in 21:06.9 ahead of Liverpool’s top time of 21:26.2 from Taylor Page, while Sophia Cavalieri claimed sixth place in 21:38.3 and Rachel Becker was eighth in 22:05.3.
In the ensuing boys race, B’ville won again, handling Liverpool 19-40 led by another top-three sweep.
Here it was Adam Kozman going 17:13.6 as he ran together with Ryan Wilson (17:13.7) and Noah Covert (17:13.9) and they all were clear of the 17:36.8 from the Warriors’ Brady Ruediger.
Leading the next pack of Bees, Jacob Guelli was sixth in 17:50 flat, with Logan Bolton getting to seventh place in 17:55. Wyatt Decker (18:09.5) and Paul Clark (18:19.7) beat out Doug Clark and Will Cornell (18:23.3 each) for top-10 finishes.
Each of the B’ville sides would go to Saturday’s McQuaid Invitational in Rochester, where, in the girls Varsity AAA race, Barton made her way to 17th place in 19:14.5, with DeFio 22nd in 19:27.1. Wei had a 35th-place time of 19:57.6 and Cavalieri went 20:22.2 for 44th place.
The boys Bees were part of the featured Bob Bradley Premier division. Covert led B’ville by finishing 41st on the three-mile McQuaid course in 15:41.8, with Kozman (15:49.5) also inside the top 50 and Paul Clark (15:54.1) just outside it. Fayetteville-Manlius star Nolan McGinn won in 14:36.4.
