CENTRAL NEW YORK – Both the West Genesee and Bishop Ludden girls soccer teams found themselves without a defeat heading into last week’s action.
At 5-0-2 overall, the Wildcats maintained its consistent level against visiting Baldwinsville last Tuesday night, roaring it way to a 2-0 shutout of the Bees in its only game of the week.
The main story here was WG’s defense, how it smothered B’ville most of the night and only allowed three shots. Thus, the attack could afford patience and waiting for ideal moments.
When they arrived, the Wildcats were able to bury a pair past Alyssa Luce. Anna Nelson and Ellie McMahon earend the goals, while Alyssa Winters and Tori Hulbert picked up assists.
Ludden, meanwhile, made it five wins in a row last Monday against crosstown rival Bishop Grimes, blanking the Cobras by a 3-0 margin.
Adding to her totals, Ashley Pawelczyk scored twice, while Sophia Chemotti had the other goal. Mary Olivia and Grace Detor picked up assists.
Four road games in a row would follow, starting Wednesday at Onondaga/LaFayette, where Ludden more than doubled its total from the Grimes game and prevailed 7-0.
Again, Pawelczyk put up a hat trick, her three goals aided by Chemotti and Jane Fallon each getting one goal and one assist, plus goals by Elizabeth Gaughan and Brynn Marvin. Jordyn Townes got two assists as the Gaelic Knights finished the game with 27 shots.
It expected to get tougher at Tully Friday night, but despite the Black Knights’ 3-3 record, Ludden dominated the game and didn’t let up until it had prevailed by a 5-0 margin.
Pawelczyk hurt Tully with three goals, her hat trick giving her 16 for the season, nearly matching her total of 18 from 2022 with half a regular season to play.
Help came from Fallon and Mary Detor, who also put in goals, along with assists from Gaughan and Chemotti, while Ludden’s defense held the Black Knights to just four shots.
Jordan-Elbridge/Cato-Meridian was 0-6 before its long skid ended last Monday afternoon with a 2-0 shutout over Manlius Pebble Hill.
Briella Gilfus and Kailey Kauffman picked up the goals, with Ava White adding an assist. Each of the Trojans’ six shots was turned back by Eagles goalie Erin LaVancha.
Moving on to last Wednesday’s game with Pulaski, J-E managed to pull out a 1-1 draw with the Blue Devils, scoring in the second half to overcome 12 saves by Pulaski goalie Bridgette Fox.
In Friday afternoon’s 3-0 defeat to Bishop Grimes, the Eagles saw Olivia Garland, Adrianna Scollo and Sicily Shaffer each pick up goals for the victorious Cobras.
