CENTRAL NEW YORK – One full week of regular-season fall boys golf remains, and Skaneateles remains without a defeat.
The Lakers put its perfect record on the line last Wednesday at Camillus Golf Club against Westhill, a tense and close match where the Lakers survived the challenge and beat the Warriors 206-212.
It was Drew Mancini leading Skaneateles, his 37 for nine holes beating out the 38 from Westhill star Danny Young as Jack Marquardt gave the Lakers a 39 to move his team in front.
In order to stay there, Skaneateles needed a 41 from Will Murphy , a 44 from Charlie Girzadas and a 45 from Graham Bradley as Westhill’s Grady Pens had a 41, Teddy DeMore a 42, Anthony Sampo a 44 and Evan Chaddock a 47.
As a follow-up, Skaneateles flew past McGraw 205-302 on Thursday, Mancini’s 39 edging Marquardt’s 40 for individual honors as Murphy put up a 41 and Finaly Coyne got a 45 to reach the top five.
Westhill and Marcellus went head-to-head last Monday afternoon at Sunset Ridge, and it proved a close one, but Danny Young led the Warriors past the Mustangs 215-221.
More than half the margin came from Young shooting 36 to the low Marcellus round of 39 from Will Glass as John Williams and Ben Reome both posted 42 to tie for third.
It was Pens, shooting a 45, that led the Westhill comeback, finished by a 46 from DeMore and 47 from Tripp Sauer. Dieter Steigerwald also had a 47, with Chris Loveless and Connor Wierbinski each shooting 51.
Then, challenging undefeated CBA a day later at Camillus Golf Club, Westhill got a fantastic round from Young, but not enough help around him in a 205-211 defeat.
Young’s one-under-par 35 beat out CBA’s Liam White (40) and Rowen Lynch (41). Pens had a 43, but two CBA golfers topped that total and two others matched it ahead of 44s by Sauer and Anthony Sampo.
As Westhill battled Skaneateles, Marcellus defeated Mexico 225-248. Glass shot a 37, three ahead of Williams’ 40 as they were well clear of the 47 from Reome and 49 from Loveless.
When it got its turn against Mexicon on Thursday, Westhill won big, 217-258, with three players – Young, Pens and DeMore – each shooting 40 and Evan Chaddock shooting 46.
During Friday’s action, Marcellus routed Chittenango 213-255 behind 38s from Williams and Glass at Sunset Ridge, while Reome added a 41.
West Genesee Gold was 8-0 going into the week, but saw that perfect run halted by Fayetteville-Manlius Green last Wednesday in a 201-202 thriller at Green Lakes.
The Wildcats had prevailed 180-189 when they first met Aug. 30 at Westvale. But this one was tight from the outset as three players shot 38 – Ben Glass and Jason Clifton for WG Gold. Dylan Friedman for F-M Green.
Will Kettell and Henry Will each shot 39 to thrust the Hornets in front, yet it had to wait to see what happened as the Wildcats turned in a 41 from Jameson Bard and 42s from Jack Einlich and John Scholts.
Ryder Baldwin equaled Bard’s 41, meaning that someone needed to shot a 43 for F-M Green – and Duncan McDaniel posted that exact number to get the Hornets the win.
Rebounding from this back home on Thursday, WG Gold handled Liverpool 183-205. Five Wildcats broke 40, led by Bard’s 35 as Nick Stemkoski had a 36 and 37s were posted by Clifton and Austin Fassinger. Glass added a 38.
West Genesee Blue played last Monday against Cicero-North Syracuse Blue and lost, 195-209. Four Northstars topped the 40 from Topher Shoults. Dylan Radcliffe had a 41, one ahead of Andrew Banish’s 42 as 43s were shot by Alex Cammarata and Lincoln Christopher.
But the Wildcats were victorious 198-224 over C-NS Green Wednesday at Westvale. Shoults led with a 38, while Christopher and Banish both shot 39 as, in Friday’s 202-216 win over F-M White, Christopher earned a 37 and Shoults had a 40 ahead of 41s by Jonathan Lape and Colin Straub.
Jordan-Elbridge started its week with a 207-243 defeat to Cazenovia. Caden’ Hearn’s 40 at Cazenovia Country Club tied Ben Bianco for second, trailing only the 37 from the Lakers’ Will Guider, while Emerson Derby had a 42 to tie for fourth place. David Lawless added a 48.
Back at Millstone a day later, J-E fell 206-261 to Tully. Hearn’s 43 was bettered or equaled by four Black Knights, led by Nate Melton’s 38. Jeff Stevens shot 52, ahead of Anthony Lawless (54), and Jason Clochess (55).
