CENTRAL NEW YORK – Though a large portion of local attention was elsewhere, girls volleyball teams at Skaneateles, Marcellus, Bishop Ludden and Jordan-Elbridge continued their strong starts, too.
This was especially the case for Skaneateles, who again got the best of its Laker rivalry with Cazenovia last Monday night, prevailing in four sets.
In control throughout the first sets, Skaneateles won them 25-18 and 25-20, so it could absorb a 25-7 romp by Cazenovia in the third set to rebound and win the match 25-16 in the fourth.
Ayla Pas’cal had 13 kills, four blocks and two assists, with Ellie Walsh stepping up thanks to her 10 kills, six digs and four aces. Maggie Lootens had seven kills and seven digs as, sharing back-line duties, Delaney Fish managed 15 assists and Cydney Pitman gained 12 assists, plus five digs.
Then it was Skaneateles toppling its rivals from Marcellus, doing so in a match where the Lakers won 25-13 and 25-18 in the first two sets, but could not quite get the sweep, falling 25-20 to the Mustangs in the third.
A 25-15 romp in the fourth set ended the match, Pas’cal getting nine kills and seven blocks helped by Lootens (eight kills, eight digs) and Walsh (five kills, seven digs).
Doing it all, Pitman amassed 15 assists, six kills, five blocks and five digs, while Marcellus saw Bryn Goldsworthy go all over for 50 blocks and Chloe Kutruff had 24 assists. Ellie DeMarle earned 10 kills and four blocks.
A five-set epic on Saturday had Skaneateles outlast Oswego for its seventh win in a row a day after it beat Auburn in four sets 25-16, 25-17, 16-25, 25-14. Pas’cal had nine kills, five blocks and six digs against the Maroons, Lootens and Pitman adding six kills apiece as Fish earned 14 assists.
In the Oswego match, the Buccaneers twice went in front, taking the first set 25-19 and the third set 25-22. Both times, the Lakers got back even, winning the second 25-20 and dominating the fourth 25-14.
In a tough final set, Skaneateles pulled it out 15-12, Pas’cal notching 21 kills and six blocks. Lootens (13 kills, 12 digs) and Walsh (10 kills, 14 digs) both had double-doubles as Fish had 26 assists, Cydney Pitman 17 assists and Alyssa Franciamone put up 26 digs.

and four aces. Harper Camp got eight kills, Maddy Foy seven kills and Dorothy McMahon five kills.
Solvay was still looking for its first win of the season when it fell in four sets to Homer last Monday. The Bearcats won the second set 25-20 after dropping the opener 25-13, but saw the Trojans take the next two sets 25-14 and 27-25.
Hannah Haase still managed seven kills, four aces and eight digs, but no other Solvay player had more than three kills. Hannah Cintron finished with 17 assists as Gianna D’Eredita had nine digs and Rachel Willsey added seven digs.
The skid ended Wednesday with Solvay’s 25-13, 25-22, 25-21 win over Phoenix, achieved with no one getting more than Haase’s four kills and seven digs. Cintron had nine assists and five of the team’s 18 aces.
Bishop Ludden made it four wins in a row last Tuesday, sweeping Altmar-Parish-Williamstown 25-18, 25-13, 25-9. Sophia Rivera had six aces and four assists, with Sarah Prowak and Tiz’Ariah Blue each getting four aces as Bridget Dunham managed nine kills. Jaylianna Pascarella had five assists.
But the win streak ended with Wednesday’s 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 25-23 defeat to Cato-Meridian, Ludden unable to get the close points to extend the match late. Dunham had six kills and Nine digs, with Ava Bush amassing eight aces and Natlaie Testa getting seven assists.
Then Ludden met Jordan-Elbridge on Friday and the Eagles flew past the Gaelic Knights, the two sides splitting a pair of 25-22 sets before J-E won the third 25-20 and the fourth 25-16.
Sydney Parsons got six kills, helped on the front line by five kills apiece from Ryleigh Gill, Abby DelFavero and Brenna Tubbert as Zoie Karcz had 16 assists and Claire Brown got 18 digs.
