ONONDAGA COUNTY – Having opened its season Aug. 30 by topping its rivals from Liverpool, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls tennis team would add to its win total.
The Northstars met Henninger on Sept. 1 and shut out the Black Knights 7-0, with Madelyn Shaw blanking Monica Youkouma 6-0, 6-0 as Addyson Fedele handled Gloria Poe 6-2, 6-0 and, in first singles, Meghan Obleman won, 6-2, 6-2, over Parisa Ozbek.
The doubles teams of Megan Mieves-Lily Misco and Madeline Frisch-Calista Nguyen each earned shutouts, with Mackenzie Prentice and Kat McRobbie-Taru beating Makenzeerose Brown and Tiairra Taylor 6-1, 6-0. Lauren Malec and Andrea Iqbal worked past Hkee Thay and Hana Mehic 6-1, 6-1.
What followed was a first full week of September where many matches across the area were postponed, either for excessive heat or for inclement weather.
However, it cleared up Friday for C-NS to challenge Fayetteville-Manlius, though the Northstars were unable to get on the board in a 7-0 loss to the Hornets.
Obleman, Shaw and Fedele managed just one game in their six sets of singles play. The closest of the four doubles matches had Malec and Iqbal falling to Angelina Fang and Caitlyn McLain 6-2, 6-1.
Liverpool has its own scheduled match with F-M this week in between facing West Genesee and East Syracuse Minoa as C-NS challenges Baldwinsville on Wednesday afternoon.
