CENTRAL NEW YORK – Once all the rain stopped, area high school girls golf teams went back to their usual behavior, which meant piling up victories and staying atop their respective leagues.
Christian Brothers Academy took a 6-0 record to Tuscarora for last Tuesday’s match against Marcellus and, amid cold, damp conditions, was able to use its depth to beat the Mustangs 201-219.
Over nine holes, Marcellus’ Allison Coombs shot a 47 to lead all individuals. Yet CBA got a 48 from Grace Catalano. 49s from Anna Fuller and Cara DeFillipis and a 55 from Hana Kang that beat the Mustangs’ next best round of 56 from Claire Curtin ahead of Isabella Formoza (57) and Sofia Tufenkjian (59)
When it returned last Thursday at Green Lakes, Fayetteville-Manlius Green was in full flight against Cicero-North Syracuse Green, pulling away for a 169-253 win over the Northstars.
Shooting a 39, Erin Graves got close to par and led a top-five individual sweep. Bella Fulmer and Eilzabeth Noel each shot 43, with Emma Li shooting a season-best 44 and Lindsey Chong adding a 47.
A day later, F-M Green got past Liverpool 153-171 at Hickory Hills, led by Alana Isley shooting a 37. Fullmer and Gabby Dardis both had 38s and Noel got a 40 to match that of LHS’s Melanie Biviano.
Meanwhile, CBA won big again, handling Westhill 182-257 as Catalano’s 42 at Camillus Golf led the way. Fuller posted a 45, with DeFilliips earning a 47 and Kang adding a 48.
In a close one last Tuesday, Manlius Pebble Hill fell to Westhill 246-247. Amitees Fazelli’s 42 was 16 shots better than any Westhill golfer, but no other Trojan improved on the 62 from Darby Gardner as Rose Fallon added a 66.
That same day, Bishop Grimes took a 251-262 defeat to Skaneateles, though the 50 from Ashley Ince was the low individual round by nine strokes over the Lakers’ Ella Arroyo.
During Friday’s 238-255 loss to Chittenango, MPH saw Fallon shoot a 57 to finish second to the 54 by the Bears’ Ava Hohl. D’Arby Gardner added a 59. Grimes lost, 198-258, to Marcellus, though Ince’s 44 was second among individuals behind a 41 from Coombs.
In boys golf, MPH did play last Monday and lost, 226-254, to Bishop Ludden. James Wildhack had a 46, but that was behind three Gaelic Knights led by Max Boyea’s 43 as Nate Orsen had a 49, Dash Goode shot 52 and Owen Sacks had a 57.
But MPH recovered to beat Solvay 237-298 a day later. Wildhack shot a 40 to beat the Bearcats’ Anthony D’Agostino (42) and Josh Komar (43), with no other Solvay player breaking 70, which Alex Fung did with a 45 ahead or Orsen (50), Goode and Sacks (51 each).
Then it turned again on Thursday, MPH falling to Marcellus 227-307. Orsen’s 54 led the Trojans, but five Mustangs beat that total, led by a 41 from Elliot Austin.
