CENTRAL NEW YORK – When it comes to area girls golf, chances are that anyone who wanted to go to the top had to try and get past Christian Brothers Academy or Fayetteville-Manlius Green.
However, it was also the case that Jamesville-DeWitt could dominate, as it did last Wednesday when all of the SCAC Empire division teams gathered for the first time this season at Highland Golf Course in Auburn.
J-D’s team total of 198 was well clear of East Syracuse Minoa (242) in second place as, individually, Sarah Burgess shot a nine-hole 43 to take top honors and teammate Jaeda Robinson was second with 48.
Abby Neuman was fourth with 53, Isabelle Vaverchak got fifth with 4 and Anna Smith was sixth with 56 as, for ESM, Isabelle Chavoustie, Harper DiJulio and Julia Brown each shot 60, with 62s from Camden Woodard and Mia Williams.
Strong again last Tuesday at Drumlins, CBA handled Bishop Grimes by a score of 196-254, led by Anna Fuller and Grace Catalano, each of whom shot 45 as Meredith Sommers added a 49 and Hana Kang a 57.
Ashley Ince, with a 50, had the best total for the Cobras, while Isabella Coppola had a 64 and Isabella Bonacci a 68. Gianna DiNiro finished with a 72.
F-M Green made it 3-0 last Monday at Westvale, relying on steady play in tough conditions to beat West Genesee by a score of 192-218.
Individually, Gabby Dardis shot a 43, well clear of the 48 by the Wildcats’ Sophia Simiele. Then Alana Isley shot 49 as Bella Fullmer and Lucia Melfi each posted 50 in front of the 52 from WG’s Olivia Snyder.
A bigger match loomed Friday at Timber Banks when F-M Green challenged 3-0 Baldwinsville and, with a top five sweep, got away to beat the Bees 178-209.
Dardis again finished at 43, which beat out the 44 from Erin Graves. Then Lindsey Chong shot 45, Isley shot 46 and Elizabeth Noel added 47, all ahead of the low 48 by B’ville’s Eva Pawelek.
F-M White played last Monday and lost to Cicero-North Syracuse Blue 179-225 at Lakeshore Country Club. Georgia Perry shot a 52, with Sydney Hines (56) beating out Katherine Parmley (58) and Claire Zerrillo (59), though they all trailed the Northstars’ top five led by Isabella Borte’s 42.
Back at Green Lakes two days later, F-M White had its own match with West Genesee and, earning its first win of the season, pushed past the Wildcats 204-214.
Perry again had the top individual score, a 48, with Emily Pollard adding a 50 ahead of the 51 from WG’s Sophia Simiele. Parmley and Zerrillo both improved to a 53.
Winning again on Friday, F-M White routed C-NS Green 207-246, with Zerillo’s 50 the low individual round. Melissa Continelli and Emily Pollard had matching 52s ahead of Hines’ 53 and Perry’s 55.
Manlius Pebble Hill faced Marcellus last Thursday at Tuscarora, the Trojans taking a 224-261 defeat though, again, Amitees Fazelli led all indiviudals, her 46 one stroke ahead of the 47 from the Mustangs’ Allison Coombs.
