CENTRAL NEW YORK – On the opening weekend of December, area high school wrestling returned – and with it, a major early accomplishment for Jordan-Elbridge.
The Eagles, a team combined with Port Byron and Union Springs, emerged victorious from its first event of the season when it swept five foes to take the APW/Pulaski Duals.
J-E first topped Canton 47-24, then routed Oswego 72-6. A 51-23 victory over Moravia followed. Then, after beating APW/Pulaski 54-21, the Eagles faced Mexico in the decisive match and doubled up the Tigers 48-24.
All six bouts from 118 to 160 pounds went in the Eagles’ favor, including consecutive pins by Micah Muhlnickel (132), Bryce Mahoney (138), Jack Lamson (145) and Henry Smith (160), with Lamson pinning Michael Harris in 22 seconds and Smith taking 30 seconds to finish off David House.
Lucas Witter (118 pounds). Angelo Turo (189 pounds) and Noah White (215 pounds) also earned pins, Turo over Mason Margrey in 21 seconds and White over Jaiden Gibson in 38 seconds.
With pins in all five of their bouts, Lamson and Turo led the way, with Lucas Witter (118 pounds) going 3-0 as Muhlnickel and Liam Mantell (110 pounds) both sported 3-1 records.
In its Onondaga High School League opener Wednesday against Southern Hills, J-E prevailed again, handling the Storm by a score of 54-24.
After forfeits to Mantell and Ben Lamson (102 pounds), Witter pinned Ray Carr near the end of the second period, with Dylan Nolan, at 132 pounds, pinning Logan Sheriff at the end of the first period and Mahoney pinning Sye Stanton in 62 seconds.
Later in the meet, Lamson and Smith got back-to-back second-period pins over, respectively, Alex Wilcox and Broc Tupper, with Turo taking just 55 seconds to pin David Frazee.
Back on Dec.3, in Cicero-North Syracuse’s annual Andersen Tournament, West Genesee finished 10th, with 84 points, while Marcellus had 41 points for 18th place.
Austin Feisinger, at 110 pounds, and Maxx Feisinger, at 152 pounds, both produced 4-1 records, combining for six pins as Logan Willis added his own 4-1 mark at 126 pounds.
Marcellus, meanwhile, had Colin Scherer reach the finals at 132 pounds before a 7-0 defeat to Camden’s Trey Kimball. Dan Okhman and Chris Doshna both had 2-2 records at 160 pounds.
WG went from here to a closely-fought SCAC Metro division opener Wednesday against Baldwinsville, where it took a 37-33 defeat to the Bees.
Trailing 13-0 after three bouts, the Wildcats went in front when Jack Wade’s pin of Davian McLeod at 152 pounds began a string where Maxx Fesinger pinned Brady Lescenski and Jacob Severson (172 pounds) got a third-period fall over Nathan Cali.
B’ville countered with two pins before Derek Dishaw, at 285 pounds, edged Haden Newton 5-3. Austin Fesinger and Logan Willis (126 pounds) would both get second-period pins over, respectively, Brennan Kline and Collin Zeman, but two late victories allowed the Bees to hang on.
