CHITTENANGO – Each of the Chittenango track and field teams enjoyed competing at its home venue during Friday’s Onondadga High School League Liberty division large-school championships.
And it was enough for the boys Bears to pick up 93 points and the girls to earn 66 points, each of them getting to third place in seven-team fields behind Marcellus (the boys champions) and Westhill (the girls champions).
Caleb LeBlanc contended in the 1,600-meter run, going four minutes, 43.64 seconds, inches behind the winning 4:43.45 from Westhill’s Brandon Mulholland as Nate Dziedzic was sixth in 5:05.84.
LeBlanc also got second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:27.9, beating Dziedzic (11:33.3) in third place, while LeBlanc got third in the 800-meter run in 2:06.90, where Dziedzic (2:14.19) was fifth.
Kevin Davidson was second in the 400-meter dash in 52.77 seconds, edged by Cooper Van Dee (Homer) in 52.71. Davidson also tied for fourth in the pole vault, topping 9 feet, and finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 24.14.
Dziedzic, Lawson Pagorek, Micah Granta and Manu Tipa were second in the 4×800 relay in 9:01.61 to Westhill’s 8:54.60. Pagorek, Granata, Trevor Cole and Michael Eiffe were third in the 4×400 relay in 3:49.76.
Joseph Lin earned points with his second-place time of 1:01.11 in the 400 hurdles to the 58.83 from Mason Grieb (Marcellus) as Lin was third in the 110 high hurdles in 16.02 seconds and fifth in the high jump, clearing 5’4”, to go with a sixth (17’1 1/2”) in the long jump.
Quinten Mohamed earned 1,969 points in the pentathlon, taking second place to Mexico’s Aiden Renfer (2,344). Chittenango was seventh in the 4×100 in 51.64, with Alex Brummer seventh in the 3,200-meter run.
Roger Mulholland had a third-place discus throw of 101’7” as Tom Champion (91’11”) was sixth, Mulholland also throwing the shot put 34’9 1/4” for sixth place.
The girls Bears had a 1-2 sweep atop the 3,000-meter run, Laura Powers earning the victory in 12:17.81 to pull away from teammate Sophia DiGennaro, who was second in 12:34.94. Jordan Wagner was second in the long jump, going 15’8”, just behind the 15’10 1/4” from Mexico’s Grace O’Gorman.
DiGennaro, Mia McReynolds, Madelynn Dziedzic and Evelyn Wynkoop were second in the 4×800 in 11:12.39, matching the boys finish. Jule Voelk earned third place in the 800-meter run in 2:33.71.
Powers went 5:29.77 in the 1,500-meter run to finish third as Emily Judd was sixth in 5:44.26. Hannah Wagner was fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:16.31 and fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.68 seconds.
Jordan Wagner needed 27.90 seconds to finish fourth in the 200 as Allie Bartoszek was sixth in the 100 hurdles in 18.58 seconds. McReynolds, Voelk, Jordan Wagner and Ashley Wagner took fourth in the 4×400 in 4:37.29.
Bartoszek, McReynolds, Jordan Wagner and Hannah Wagner were fifth (56.22) in the 4×100, with Miranda Danaher fifth in the shot put tossing it 25’10 1/2”.
