ONONDAGA COUNTY – Unlike some years, the Baldwinsville girls tennis actually made some headway in the two head-to-head matches it had against reigning power Fayetteville-Manlius.
Yet even that couldn’t keep the Bees from taking defeats on both occasions, including a 5-2 loss last Tuesday that secured yet another SCAC Metro division regular-season title for the Hornets.
B’ville’s point in singles was secured by Mira Nazdan, who handled Trisha Adaviikolanu in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. But Ella Tromblee fell to Angela Iskander 6-0, 6-1, and by those same scores Hannah Gould lost to Anna Manta.
Over in doubles, the Bees got on the board again thanks to Reagan Doan and Ayla Kalfass, who had a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Ava Abruzzese and Katya Quinn.
Audrey Benton and Julia Quinn pushed Natalie Hugo and Maya McKenzie to three sets, but lost 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, with Alexandra Cavino and Elaina Nesbitt falling 6-1, 6-4 to Parisa Ahmed and Brooke Tester. Sophia Fiorentino and Isabella Iannitti lost to Madison Chamberlain and Laura Scalzetti 6-3, 6-2.
Two days later, B’ville routed Nottingham 6-0, with Gould, Nazdan and Cavino not dropping a game in any of their singles matches against Eh Hso, Sumina Subba and Hsay Wah.
Leading in doubles, Doan and Kalfass handled Hso and Hsar Eh Soe 6-1, 6-1, with Tromblee pairing with Audrey Benton to claim one win and the other going to Alexa Bolton and Megan Stack-Couture.
