ONONDAGA COUNTY – Another high school gymnastics season is underway for athletes from three schools who take part on a pair of combined teams.
Jamesville-DeWitt/Fayetteville-Manlius would begin last Friday against Baldwinsville, and led by Rylee Fishkin, J-D/F-M would emerge triumphant, topping the Bees 133.5-118.0.
Fishkin emerged as the all-around champion with a total of 34.7, built up by winning the uneven bars at 9.4 and the floor exercise with a 9.1 routine. She also won the vault with an 8.3.
Rachel McKean, scoring an 8.5 on balance beam, edged B’ville’s Maddie Brooks’, who had an 8.4 as her all-around total of 33.6 included an 8.55 on the floor and 8.50 on uneven bars.
Steady all night, Antoinette Sakellariou scored 8.5 on the floor, 8.4 on uneven bars and 8.1 on the vault and beam. Katie DiStefano got 8.15 on the vault ahead of Charlotte Ford’s 8.1.
Earlier in the week, it was East Syracuse Minoa/Liverpool going up against New Hartford and taking a 138.3-128.1 defeat despite Katie DiMillo’s win in the vault.
DiMillo scored an 8.7 to beat the 8.1 from New Hartford star Miranda Smith as Angelina Merulla scored an 8.0. Rhiannon Butchko matched Merulla’s 9.0 on floor exercise, with Madelyn Massoud adding an 8.8.
With an all-around score of 34.1, DiMillo trailed Smith, who was nearly perfect on uneven bars, earning a 9.8 to go with 9.5 on balance beam and a 9.2 floor routine.
