All the rules and regulations for sporting events in the era of COVID-19 are ramped up indoors, which was part of the reason high school girls swimming and volleyball got moved to early 2021.
However, gymnastics remained in the fall, and the two local teams, Jamesville-DeWitt/Fayetteville-Manlius and East Syracuse Minoa/Liverpool, would open their seasons against one another Wednesday night.
J-D/F-M took the meet 139.65-108.70, led by Rylee Fishkin, whose spectacular all-around total of 36.75 featured victories on all four apparatus.
Fiskin did best on uneven bars, where she scored 9.6. Adding a 9.5 floor exercise routine, Fishkin would score 9.35 on balance beam and then beat the field in the vault with an 8.3.
On the floor, Catherine Rizzo scored 9.4 and Rachel McKean had a 9.3, Rizzo also earning 9.3 on uneven bars on her way to an all-around total of 34.10.
Zoe Potamianos had a 33.35 all-around effort where her vault of 8.25 matched the score of Antoinette Sakellariou, who scored 8.4 on the beam. Lilly Hadley was third on uneven bars with an 8.5.
ESM/Liverpool had another meet on Friday, against Central Square, where it lost 120.20-104.15 to the Redhawks.
Jordin Fournier earned an all-around score of 28.7, third among individuals, which included a 7.9 vault and 7.0 on the floor. Central Square’s Sage Wolfe topped the all-around standings at 33.9, including a beam score of 9.0.
Both J-D/F-M and ESM/Liverpool next compete on Oct. 24 at Valley Gymnastics against New Hartford and Rome Free Academy.
