Neighborhood girls tennis teams got together last Wednesday afternoon as West Genesee faced Marcellus, with the Wildcats taking charge and claiming every single point in a 7-0 win over the Mustangs.
Emma Pinker got through a 6-4, 6-4 singles victory over Sophia Shaw, with the other singles matches not as close. Angelina Llanos beat Kathleen DeMarie 6-1, 6-2 as Natalie Thurston won, 6-0, 6-2, over Danielle Copp.
Pairing up in doubles, Mikayla Mannara and Katie Viau blanked Elaina Mahoney and Megan Mitchell 6-0, 6-0 as, by those same scores, Anastasia Mello and Emma Yeager turned back Bella Clarke and Colleen Marsh.
In two sets, Alyssa Congel and Mi Tran put away Isabella Demmis and Olivia Kittelberger 6-1, 6-1, just as Greta Hahn and Nicole Tessier handled Angelina Coleman and Sophie Spitzer 6-1, 6-0.
WG also earned all of the points in a 7-0 sweep of Cicero-North Syracuse the day before. Mannara’s 6-0, 6-0 singles romp over Krista Feeney set the tone as Viau won over Jenna Wilson 6-0, 6-1 and Pinker rolled past Lexi Hnatiw 6-2, 6-2.
Llanos and Thurston started the doubles sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Anna Dwyer and Miranda Szwej. Mello and Yeager handled Bri Bonilla and Sara Cartier 6-3, 6-2.
In the closest of the seven matches, WG’s Annabelle Levy and Elisha Strachan handled Tina Chen and Bri Galway 6-4, 6-2. Hahn, paired with Tran, beat Alexa Kulak and Emily Pilz 6-2, 6-1.
WG went from there to again sweeping C-NS 7-0 on Thursday, with just one game apiece dropped by Mannara and Viau in singles as Pinker once more beat Hnatiw, this time 6-4, 6-2.
Hahn and Sophia Lowry went to three sets in doubles, but topped McKenzie Cochran and Alexa Kulak 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, just as the teams of Llanos-Thurston, Mello-Yeager and Congel-Tran each won in two sets.
Meanwhile, Marcellus got a valuable league when it pushed past Manlius-Pebble Hill 5-2.In the closest of those four doubles matches, DeMarie and Elaina Mahoney trailed Sara Antonevich and Ava Benedict, but took over late to prevail 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Kaitlyn Kemp and Morgan Walsh won, 6-3, 6-4, over Eva Englich and Eden Hildebrandt, with Sophia Shaw and Maddie Vetsch beating Ileana Anghel and Caroline Mezzalingua by those same scores.
MPH got two points in singles, but Copp claimed a forfeit, and in fourth doubles Clarke and Casey Conklin pushed past Kaeli and Katrina Ahn 6-1, 6-1.
Then Marcellus prevailed 5-2 over Jordan-Elbridge Thursday afternoon, even though the Eagles got two singles points as Meghan Whalen beat DeMarie 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 and Anisa Bort beat Marsh 6-2, 6-3.
Copp answered with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Wendy Carter, and the Mustangs swept the doubles, with Conklin and Vetsch going to a third-set tie-breaker before holding off Maria LaFleur and Abby Skotinski 7-6, 3-6, 7-6.
Otherwise, Mahoney and Mitchell handled Delaney Dunham and Meghan Hatt 6-3, 6-0, with Kemp and Walsh blanking Bella DeCola and Maddie Green 6-0, 6-0. Shaw and Bella Clarke had a 6-0, 7-5 win over Skylar Crysler and Katelyn Precourt.
J-E was able to get a win on Friday, edging Pulaski 4-3 by sweeping all of the doubles matches, two of them in third-set tie-breakers.
Dunham and Hatt claimed the first of those thrillers 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 over Rhyana Kveton and Olivia Taylor, while DeCola and Gabrielle Skotniski made quite a comeback to win over Holly Pacyon and Jessica Yesensky 2-6, 6-1, 7-6.
The other doubles matches went two sets as Green and Precourt handled Julia Hefti and Isabella Pierce 6-1, 6-1, just as Bort and Whalen paired up to handle Lauren Denny and Chelcie Oakes 6-2, 6-3.
Westhill, who lost 7-0 to Skaneateles earlier in the week, had a 5-2 defeat to Cazenovia on Friday, getting both of its points in in doubles.
Camille Argentieri and Zoe Hynes topped Abby Burrell and Charley Harris 6-4, 6-4, with Cami Cortez and Grace Lesselroth beating Kaitlyn Puffer and Nina Royer 6-3, 6-2. But the Lakers dominated in singles, only allowing three games in those three matches to Sophia Frost, Mikayla Carroll and Sophie Langdon.
